I’m a little unclear on what you’re asking.
I think you’re asking this: How can I nest two effects on multiple clips (first a CC, then a resize)
The problem is, to add a second effect requires autonesting (alt click) – but if you have multiple clips selected, autonest instead tries to put all the clips into a single effect (which has some cool uses.)
I think the only solution here is a dirty trick.
Put the color correct on the clips you want.
Then add a video track. Add the Pan & Scan effect to the empty track. Press the Subdivide button. This will create edits. Then select the edits you want the reformat on, go to the effects menu, double click (replacing) the pan & scan with the resize.

What happens when you remove the audio effects? Do the clips then make sound?

What version of Media composer? Have you tried to modify the original clip?

If you’re on 5.5, which is 64 bit (can’t recall if 5 is 64 bit) then I think, yes.
On 5.5, if you’re using mercury accelerated fx, the video card (if you have a CUDA card that works) handles the renders (which is faster than multiple cores.)
When you place an AE comp in Premiere Pro (again, 5.5), Premiere Pro launches a headless version of AE to do the renders – so multiple cores work. You can see this if you bring up the Task Manager/Activity Monitor (PC/MAC) and you’ll see an instance of AE launching. As I understand it, Media encoder too.

Are you using the keyboard or the mouse to zoom?
The \ key will zoom to fit the screen (I don’t use the slider at all)

Hopefully you have After effects.
Import your clip/bin/folder structure to AE.
AE will retain the folder structure.
Select all. Copy.
Paste into Premiere Pro.
Ugly workaround, but it does work.

Keyboard control? Don’t think there is one. Shift + clicking lock, locks all the audio or video tracks.

You don’t want it 800mb. You want it as large as it needs to be for the inevitable recompression that vimeo will do.
Why don’t you fix Compressor instead of trying to find a workaround. It has a youtube preset that’s perfect for this use.

If you’re going through Premiere Pro – why not just copy the MPEG2 VOBs to your hard drive and edit directly in Premiere Pro? Then it’s one conversion.
As to why it freezes – it’s freezing in Premiere Pro? As an mp4 h.264 file? Where?

1) It’s a drive that’s not your boot drive. Fill up your main drive and the OS grinds to a halt. It’s generally considered a very bad practice. USB depends on the computer for directions of how data should move, firewire does not.
2) This concept of shared storage can be done. It’s not cheap. We’re talking over $10k.
