I don’t think any reel numbers were changed after the drives were formatted, as these things were laid out very carefully, but on our first shoot, we were doing on-site firmware upgrades and other troubleshooting, so anything is possible. We shoot again this Saturday, so we should have some answers then (or at least some more questions, haha…) Thanks for the input!

I realize I can change them after the fact in FCP, but I’m talking about hundreds of clips per shoot and the drive names were chosen according to a specific cataloging plan; it’s just a drag if they aren’t carried through because then the archived clips on our Nearline storage won’t match the clips from the projects… I’m thinking it’s best not to change the reel numbers in FCP in hopes that at least the reel numbers would be improperly read the same way in the future should we need to reimport…

Ha! Yeah, I’ve already spent too much time and energy on the “wait, you mean…” sort of things. I guess I have come to accept that the best thing to do is to stop trying to make it be an Avid and take advantage of the things it does do very well. Heck, even Avid seems to have grabbed some things from FCP in the MC5 release.

Excellent, thanks Martin. In case it isn’t obvious from the questions I’ve posted I’m a very recent FCS guy with years and years of Avid, and I’m still learning what’s there and what isn’t, (damn you, non-scrolling timeline…) so thanks for your patience.

Hopefully nothing wrong with that, I just don’t have the actual units yet and haven’t had the chance to look at one in “real life” so it’s good to know there are ways to at least attach them to rack shelves… I was looking for input from someone that has already built one or to see if any companies were selling already built travel boxes.
How much physical space needs to be there between units to easily change out drives? and how much heat do the units generate, in other words how much air space should there be between units?

    thanks; jeff c.

Thanks for the quick reply. I’m kinda chasing myself around in circles at the moment, and I am pretty sure it’s a matter of having all my settings match throughout… the more I dig around the stranger it seems to get. I now have some ProRes 422LT that works correctly, tho I’m not entirely sure what I did differently. When I went to drop a clip into my new sequence that I thought was matching the clips, it said it didn’t, and did I want to change the sequence to match the clips. So I said sure, and at first it was still doing the same thing, then I went into the RT drop down menu, (which now only contained record to tape Full Quality and Playback Settings) changed it from full quality to playback settings, and it started working normally. Fine, except for then I switched it back to full quality to prove to myself it was something to do with playback settings and it then worked there as well. I’m now going to go hide in my office with the manuals and a cup of tea.
