I don’t know for certain either, but from what I’ve seen it certainly LOOKs like the difference between DV and DVCAM. That means the quality of the video is the same, there’s just a slightly higher risk of dropouts or other glitches.

You want either Audio Hijack or Audio Hijack pro. They cost either $16 or $32.
You’ll have to decide which is right for you, but as far as software goes, $32 isn’t much so the “pro” version might be the best option.

Self-contained: Actual Video file with all data
NOT-Contained: Small, refrence file that only points to the other clips on the drive.I hadn’t suggested this in the first place for jimmy because I was worried it might drop frames during the multicam edit. But you know what? It’s pretty quick to try it. Might as well give it a shot and if it works, great!

The fact that some other company already had this for sale leads me to believe that Leopard will certainly have something like this in it instead of the dual-boot thing they put out yesterday.
It makes sense…Boot Camp would be a BIG feature for Leopard…make lots of people upgrade. So why give it out for free now? Well ’cause the final version will be improved enough to STILL make people who have Boot Camp want to upgrade.

We need, like, some kind of automatic line above those things. It is confusing.

I’d go with the export-as-quicktime-file option.
If you don’t do ANY effects or edits to it the export shouldn’t be too long to handle. And once you’ve made the clip you can go back and erase the original files from the hard drive so you’ll get that space back.
Kind of a pain,yes, but I think it will be better for you in the long run.

When I first got my dual-core 2 gHz Intel iMac (2 GB RAM) I ran it against my dual-chip 2 gHz G5 Powermac (4.5 GB RAM). At the time all I had to really compare was iTunes. I compressed some audio to different formats a few different times.
I didn’t do any hard math on the numbers, but my general impression was that the iMac was only about 5-10% slower than the Powermac. So it was slower, but not by very much. It sure impressed me…I mean, it’s just an iMac!

From everything I know I think it depends on the camcorder…in other words, setup DOES have to be added but I believe most camcorders already do it themselves. But others might not? There’s the problem…it becomes very difficult to really KNOW if it is or not. The cheaper the camcorder the less chance you’ll have that this is mentioned in the user manual.
I’ve known higher end DV decks to have this as an on/off feature in the menu. THEN you can be certain sinc you’ve set it. But if it’s not a choice in the camercorder then you really can’t be sure unless you find it documented somewhere for that model or you hook it up to some other equipment that lets you test it.

I’m not positive, but I’m pretty sure that putting a marker doesn’t do anything. If there is no more media I think the playhead just stops. I don’t believe that it continues to chase after markers.
I usually just drag my audio out 1 more frame than the video. That gives me my frame of black and since the audio is fading out too, who’s gonna notice one extra frame? (This is non-broadcast work, obviously.) Putting a slug in works too, but my way is a little bit faster so that’s what I do.
