    As suspected – OUCH! What makes this especially painful is the fact that this $20k+ purchase was made less than a week ago.

    I did some light reading last night in regards to the Raid 5 Unity storage. I believe Archion might be the company you’re referring to? Not sure of the price point, of course.

    I’ve actually heard great things about Facilis and shot the info over in case a new system is still a possibility for them.

    I appreciate the encouragement; this is quite an undertaking. The cables did look a bit thick, so I’m glad you brought that up. If I could get them to agree to build this into an actual server (NAS) to feed 2-3 edit bays over GigE, none of this would be an issue.

    A gentleman from Nexenta over on Hardforum gave a pretty good write-up in the Norco thread in regards to running SATA drives behind SAS expanders:

    We aren’t exactly running a data center so I’m not *too* worried, but being that we’d be running the cheapest drives on the market I’d like to get peace of mind somewhere along the chain.
