Thanks for the info Neil. Very helpful going forward. I went with the 4 bay USB 3.0 RAID from OWC. It’s giving me the speed I need to run 6 ProRes streams in FCP 7 multicam. I should do some tests but I think it can even handle more than that.

I went with macsales for the RAM (32GB) and OWC RAID (4x4tb with Enterprise drives, 5 yr warranty). Maybe not the highest rated RAID in the biz but if they stand behind it for 5 years, I’ll be happy.

Any possibility my machine (Mid 2010 MacPro) will have thunderbolt expandability? Anyway, I’m not finding RAIDs that support thunderbolt AND USB 3. So looks like USB 3.0 is the best option. This OWC product can be configured as a RAID 0, 1, 5 or 10. It has 4 drives. Am I best off going with RAID 5? Been pouring over the Creative Cow RAID forum as well. My head is spinning at 7200 rpm at the moment.

Good answer, Shane. If this will solve my problem, I’m in. I’m still unclear how the eSata connection is better/faster than my USB 3.0 PCIe? Every source I find is to the contrary.

Will this OWC will allow speeds for 4K editing on my 2010 Mac Pro?

Thanks, Shane. I am using a USB 3 Card, but as you said, it’s not enough, huh.

Any particular recommendation to help me narrow it down…Anyway to get running for under $1000
