Do you think there is a huge difference with the new Mac Book Pro compared to the recent one.

I can get a new older model for like $800 less. Am I better off going with the most recent new one?

Do you think there is a big difference between the 2.53 model and the 2.8? Is it worth the upgrade?

I will mainly be editing AVCHD footage from the HMC150 on it.

Did you see my other post regarding the 720p issue? I called Panasonic and I was informed that FCP has an issue bringing in 720p PH quality. The only current solution is to only film in 1080 until they can fix the bug. It is frustrating because I like the 720p look better.

Strange thing was I am able to log and transfer the 720p footage using a Macbook Pro. Weird?

Doesn’t help me though since I just dropped $4000 on my mac pro.

Hopefully it will get resolved quickly.

I just got off the phone with Panasonic and it appears that FCP doesn’t currently support 720 footage shot in the PH mode. The Panasonic tech said to use mainly the 1080 formats for now or try 720 in the HQ mode.

Hope they fix it soon! Since the 720p/60 format is the one i preferred at this point!

Hope that helps! Let me know if you continue to have issues after trying a different format>

I have had my camera for about 3 weeks and done a few test shoots with it. Overall I am pretty impressed with it for the price. Compared to what else is out there it is a really great camera.
The colors are rich and the low light is amazing. The build quality is not great. Doesn’t feel as solid in my hand as a Sony But the hand grip is comfortable and designed well to ease fatigue when shooting handheld.

It is not perfect but the price difference between the HMC150 and the Sony EX1 is significant after you add in the cards and cost of camera etc. If you want to see some sample footage shot with this camera go to http://www.vimeo.com. Type in the name of the camera and click search. Most of the footage is pretty boring do to the operators. But there are a few clips that look pretty.

I have been a Sony fan for my entire career and it is a little hard to get used to the look of Panasonic cameras. But I must admit it is growing on me.

Another nice bonus is the editing process using Final Cut Pro. I have a new dual 2.8 ghz quadcore system with 4 GB of Ram and it screams. After I convert the footage to pro res 422 I can edit at least 3 layers of video with no render in full HD. Very cool!

Good luck with your new camera I am sure you will like it.

I think it might be a bad graphics card? I took my 16gb SDHC card to an apple store and tried to convert log and transfer the same clip that I was having trouble with and it worked fine! Strange?

I have a NVIDIA GFORCE 8800GT card in my tower.

I am taking in my Mac Pro tonight to see if it is the card. I will keep you posted as to what happens!
