I have had my camera for about 3 weeks and done a few test shoots with it. Overall I am pretty impressed with it for the price. Compared to what else is out there it is a really great camera.
The colors are rich and the low light is amazing. The build quality is not great. Doesn’t feel as solid in my hand as a Sony But the hand grip is comfortable and designed well to ease fatigue when shooting handheld.
It is not perfect but the price difference between the HMC150 and the Sony EX1 is significant after you add in the cards and cost of camera etc. If you want to see some sample footage shot with this camera go to http://www.vimeo.com. Type in the name of the camera and click search. Most of the footage is pretty boring do to the operators. But there are a few clips that look pretty.
I have been a Sony fan for my entire career and it is a little hard to get used to the look of Panasonic cameras. But I must admit it is growing on me.
Another nice bonus is the editing process using Final Cut Pro. I have a new dual 2.8 ghz quadcore system with 4 GB of Ram and it screams. After I convert the footage to pro res 422 I can edit at least 3 layers of video with no render in full HD. Very cool!
Good luck with your new camera I am sure you will like it.
