I’m thinking of 2K, but it would still be bigger than the sequence settings which means I need to redo it. Thanks!

Yeah, this will be last I use it. 🙁

I’m actually doing subtitles, so I’m thinking there’s got to be a way to save hours of time.

Instead of changing the aspect ratio and redoing every title, would it be fine if I simply increased the font size of the text in the title menu (not the scale). Then, simply changing the position of one subtitle and then pasting its attribute to every remaining subtitle.

Then, it wouldn’t degrade the quality of the text, right?

    Thanks!

  • I thought if “none” is selected as working space, then the export would reflect the specs of the original footage. I exported a pr4444 file as pr4444 with 32 bpc. Maybe I’m doing something wrong in the final export?

A little late but thanks for the advice!

  • I had the working space set as none as well as the final export.

I tried changing the working space to image P3 and exporting it. The colors were a bit more like the original but still different. 🙁

  • Thanks for the link, Andy.

I actually read that post a while back, but my problem isn’t the monitor inaccurately reflecting the footage. I’m not color grading at all in AE. Basically, I’m working with a shot with P3 color space but upon exporting it Prores4444, the color changes. In other words, a video that I didn’t change the colors for at all, changed colors by itself. I brought the footage into AE for some simple compositing of a door. No grading but the colors have significantly changed. 🙁

(Quick note: To clarify a bit more, the new export looks very different than the original on the same player whether it be Quicktime or VLC. The new export reflects the preview on AE.)

Thanks a bunch for your help Oliver!

Strange. I actually replied to this message a while back but just noticed now it didn’t going thru.

Basically, the colorist is doing exactly what you said. Rendering newly graded, trimmed clips with a new XML. And now I’m about finish the master in Premiere with a PR4444 export.

He actually gave me two versions for final output: one with Rec. 709 color space and another with P3. For some reason, when I export and click render at maximum depth, an option for color space appears and only Rec. 709 is available. I know this isn’t the Premiere forum section but do you by chance know if the export for P3 will be fine with this option or do I need to avoid rendering at maximum depth to correctly export P3? Or is this even possible on Premiere?

Sorry if this isn’t the place to ask. Thanks again for your help, Oliver!

It’s funny I asked a similar question years ago and you gave me a similar answer. Lol. Thanks for the insight.

But the second part of the question… Is there a difference in quality exporting ProRes4444 files from AE vs premiere? I wanted to do some simple Twixtor slow motion. Does the 32 bpc matter for something like this?

    Thanks again.

March 22, 2017 at 2:23 pm in reply to: DPX vs Prores4444 for Sony A7 DSLR 4K Footage

Oh, so since the Sony A7 mp4 container is 8bit anyway, dpx will be an unnecessary bump up… Is that what you mean? Any room for improvement with my colorist would be great but re-exporting with dpx would definitely be a pain in the ass. Is there no noticeable advantages besides faster playback with dpx on Davinci? Thanks.
