  • So far I just watched the recruiting video and overall, I think it has a nice look and feel. I like the blown out, high key look. Good work! There does seem to be some jello-ing going on in the image. I’m not sure if it is an artifact of camera jiggling or of an autofocus lens, but it was a bit distracting to me.

In my opinion, you have too many wide shots and not enough close-up, detail shots. When I shoot, I try to get a wide shot of the action, then go in for a close-up of hands doing something, or some other interesting detail or action. If you are shooting in 1080 and delivering in 720, then you can do virtual focal length changes in post. It definitely adds interest to interviews and makes editing much easier.

[Adam Trachtenberg] “Wish I could help you but I’m so far resisting Adobe’s subscription service so I don’t have access to Cineware. I guess something else that might account for the difference is if you’ve got your project set to 2.2 gamma in Cinema and linear in AE….”

Thanks, Adam. I’ve got everything set to linear in both apps. The Lynda.com tutorials took me through that process.

[Adam Trachtenberg] “Are you using gouraud shading in your Cinema viewport, or quick shading? The latter has its own lights that don’t actually render, so it won’t give you an accurate render preview.”

    I’m using gouraud.

[Jon Hwan] “what are some cheap pre-amps available?”

You don’t get around the cheap camera preamps by routing your audio through a cheap external preamp. You get a good preamp. Check out the Juicedlink stuff.

[Abraham Chaffin] “I’ve added the functionality to make this work for you. If you add ?play to the end of the iframe embed URL you should get the expected result. Let me know how it works out for you.”

I’m trying to use”?play” and “?hd” together on the end of the iframe embed URL, but it doesn’t seem to work.

  • Those are nice examples by Todd and Emre. Here’s an interview I posted a couple of years ago that somehow became the most viewed corporate video on the COW. LIke Todd, I like a backlight that splashes on the side of the face.

I was stuck in a lunchroom with no interesting backgrounds at all, so I used a CDM fresnel to create a gradient on a blank wall. I used a fluorescent bank for the key and led panels for the fill and backlight.

    Kevin:

Thank you so much! I found some info about the OOBE folder earlier, but it didn’t work. What I needed was that link to the alternate Muse download. That did the trick and I was given the option to log in once I launched Muse. I’m back to work!

[Tumelo Masilo] “I’m editing on fcpx 10.0.8
    With regards to Hd footage,
How much can we scale the video up to before it pixellates “

I’ve found that FCPX scales footage very well. You’ll want to experiment and view the result on a display that represents the delivery platform of the content. Adding a little bit of sharpening to scaled footage can be helpful.
