    Hi Dave,

No, the server is on 32 bit. Here is a response from a contributor on the Adobe after effects forum…

“This is a known state, but not directly AE’s fault – one of your machines is not able to access footage items within a specific limit and this effectively also shuts down other machines because they, too, go into this waiting forever state. Ultimately it boils down to too many machines trying to access the same files or directories and clogging up your network. The only way to avoid it is to ramp up your network bandwidth or e.g. instead of working with compound movie clips, work with image sequences.

We have plenty of bandwidth for all the machines. It’s weird because the machines will do a single comp, but, when they switch to a multi-comp and jump to the next render item in the list, some will drop off over time. I’m thinking we might try ‘nesting’ all the comps into ONE master comp and see what happens. Dunno?

  • Hi,

Thanks for the input. We are still having machines ‘drop off’ the render queue.

We have windows server 2008 as the centralized storage. There are 4-quadcore boxes that have the networked shared folder mapped. The permissions are all good.

What seems to be happening is that after a few comps are rendered, a machine will totally lose the render ‘list’ and the watch window pops up and keeps going through the finished comps, but, never picking up on the remaining items to be rendered. It’s driving us nuts. Usually, if you shut down the render engine and restart, it seems to pick up the watch folder project and carry on.

    Any suggestions?

    Jason
