  • Thanks Don. Senior moment. I misunderstood the “pass-through” setting. Chose that and it worked fine. I think Streamclip won’t do what I want, so I’ll be using Compressor.

Turns out that the QuickTime source files were the problem. I quit FCP and opened them with QuickTime Player and voila, the same relinking prompts appeared. I had to export the files in the same format to duplicate them and trashed the weirded out files. Lots of hours wasted on such a simple solution!

I noticed lots of people had this problem – I’ve read some posts as far back as 2006… I guess I’m not getting it though because I don’t seem to find the solution. Anyways if anyone reads this, I did try to use the rename function in the Modify menu, didn’t help. I tried cutting the footage from the project and re-importing, but that made it even worse. Now FCP is asking for clips that aren’t in the project anymore, and the re-linking prompts won’t let me work at all. I threw up my hands and am trying media manager. I don’t see how that could work though – – totally distraught!!! Any help would be appreciated. deadline in five days. sob.

Well thanks for that. I didn’t try the opacity adjustment. I did use the flicker reduction effect, but it basically just softened the whole video (which by the way was not a bad result, it just didn’t solve the gristly text). Effectively the video looked nicer! I did try de-interlacing the text in FCP (duh, it just re-interlaced when I exported to QuickTime DV file) … But eventually I just solved the problem the hard way – Exported the video from FCP without the text and re-did each inter-title in AE.

Crawling chroma! sounds like a band.

Thanks for your suggestions.I’ll give it a shot. Nuther question:

If I save in .tif or .pct format, is there a way to preserve the transparency of the spaces in between letters in the logo? I can’t use logos with a white background. Seems like whenever I save in anything that isn’t psd, white is always lurking in the background where my gorgeous landscape is supposed to be.
