Ever thought of just buying a set top DVD burner? It would probably save you a lot of time and pretty much every one I have seen will create basic menus for each segment that you record.

You can easily fit a 2 hour program on a standard DVD-5. But if you want something larger you could always go with a Dual layer disc. If you’re going to be replicating it though most replication places won’t take DL discs. Most of the time for replication you’ll have to use 2 DLT tapes with Layer 0 on one tape and Layer 1 on the other tape.

We usually use the Verbatim discs but it does give a slightly dull appearance. A while ago we tried some Maxell discs and found that they had more of a shine to them…not really glossy…but they weren’t as dull as the Verbatim ones are. Might want to give them a try.

  • A while back the program took a lot of “shortcuts” to author dvd’s and often caused playback problems because the discs we not within the DVD Spec. It also allowed you to use files that weren’t within the DVD spec, and people who didn’t know what they were doing would use those kinds of files and cause lots of problems. I work at a DVD duplication place and when this program first came out it was a nightmare. Pretty much every time we had a problem duplicating someones discs and we would ask them what program they used…they would say DVD Lab. Their Multimedia Program rocks and I absolutely love it….DVD Lab on the other hand…still wouldn’t reccomend it to anyone.

  • I would go with ReelDVD from Sonic. I’d avoid DVD Lab unless they got all the problems fixed that were in the earlier versions.

The epson’s are pretty much your only option at the moment. They have just disc printers like the Primera Signature Pro and Z2 but they won’t do inserts and are very expensive.

Not unless it says it will burn either DVD+R DL or DVD-R DL. From you post doesn’t look like it will. You can get a new Pioneer 109 drive on Newegg for like $50 that will burn both the +R DL and the -R DL discs.

Dual side is basically 1 DVD-R on each side of the disc. You would need to author 2 seperate DVD’s and burn them on to each side of the disc. You can’t make 1 DVD file that is 8GB and burn one side then flip over the disc and burn the other….you need to author 2 seperate DVD’s.
With Dual layer you can author 1 file that is 8.5GB in size and burn it all at once.
