These were recorded with a GoPro camera…h264 video and AAC audio. I transcoded with compressor to the DVCPROHD…but the audio was “pass-through”. So it’s still AAC, which I know isn’t FCP friendly.

The audio is COMPLETELY irrelevant…it won’t be used. I just need to “un-marry” the audio and video on playback. I know I can do this in the avid by disabling the *monitor* button on the source clip in my timeline. Is there a comparable function in FCP?

29.97 can be progressive as well…right?

I’m just trying to edit at 29.97 so I can display on my broadcast monitor for previewing and displaying the output…30 won’t play on my NTSC HD monitor.

David – I have not started the project yet…I was trying to plan! 🙂 Imagine that…thinking ahead!

I was trying to make my footage be the same as my other footage…the screen capture will go into a piece with video testimonials about the website…

Jeremy – that’s a good idea. I’ve done that with other footage, I didn’t even think of using Cinema Tools.

I know this topic is old…but I did a search on iShowU and this thread came up.

For all of you touting iShowU as the best option…how do you deal with the issue of the frame rate? I’m trying to capture 1920×1080 for editing screen capture into a video…but it defaults to 30, not 29.97. If I change it in the settings pane, it defaults to NTSC D1 settings for capture. Do you guys just convert it afterwards to 29.97?

What are you guys doing with it?

I don’t know what Disk Warrior is…

I suspect that my specific issue is that I’m using footage shot by a consumer camera and trying to interpret that footage in Compressor to transcode to an editing format.

The camera is a VadoHD camera made by Creative. The files are h264…but I’m sure it’s some strange flavor that isn’t very friendly unless you use the “Creative editing software” provided with the camera.

Perian has solved my specific issue…thanks again Jeremy!

P.S. Rafeal – I’ve been running FCS3 since it came out…and it’s run flawlessly on my MacPro and MacBookPro…the addition of Snow Leopard has introduced a few speedbumps…but I think that is just a fact of upgrading.

That was totally the issue. I had that on my machine previously…it transcoded in compressor perfectly!

Thanks so much!!! This helps…it’s something for my family…so it’s a small victory, but a victory nonetheless!

BTW, is Perian something that should be on all mac’s that are running video editing workflows? I had run across it previously and really didn’t know what it was.

All the info I can get on this file are the “codec details” in VLC. Here they are:

I don’t know if there are several types of h264 profiles…but it just says “h264” … anyway, my attempt at using Sorenson and Episode both failed. Sorenson won’t read it…and Episode fails on transcode…

I guess I could use VLC…
