For daylight balance I now use 1/8 minus green, the green spike is unacceptable without it. As for the warranty, FloLight ceased all communication to me and I have given up. I would definitely not recommend these lights to people buying from outside USA. Maybe they are better with their warranties within the USA? My last email I sent “It’s been 20 days since my email and still not response. We will now assume that this warranty is not happening and courier is not picking up? We are pretty disappointed with the outcome of this faulty light that clearly arrived “dead(faulty) on arrival”. I received no response to this. This is the kind of service I would expect if I was buying a dirt cheap LED on ebay.
Not worth losing sleep over.
Also, another array of LED’s has dropped out on one of the lights. The other one still works fine.
I like the build of them, but the customer service has been less than enjoyable. -
Just a follow up on the faulty LED bank issue. Its been well over a month now and still no solution. At first I was asked to solder my own light to fix it. Didn’t work. Now they are trying to get me a courier to send it back to them. Apparently the courier is sending me emails with shipping labels, but they are not coming through. When I last asked for the couriers number to call them myself to sort this out, I got no response. I hope this gets sorted soon. If you live outside the USA, I would consider your warranty with these lights. After sales support in this regard has been limited, to say the least. I am trying to stay objective with this post, but its getting harder and hard with the frustration of having a faulty light that arrived DOA.
I’ll keep you posted if it gets fixed. -

As promised. Here are the new screen shots with LEE Eighth Minus Green 279 Gel over light. If you are considering buying these lights, make sure you add in the cost of buying a roll of this stuff. You will need it.

Yep, tried White balancing and of course it turns the background magenta. I am using the 5600k preset, as the lights are supposed to be daylight balanced. They have a lot of kick, so they can by used as a filler for outdoor use too. In the test shots, there is no other light source other than the Kino in one shot and the Flo in the other. I have order a roll of 1/8 minus green from LEE so I will post the results. Hopefully it just needs 1/8 not 1/4 and output wont be affected too much.Using the Panasonic HPX502en (PAL version of HPX500) with a KJ21ex Canon Lens.

Thanks for the great response Rick. Have you ever used Litepanels 1×1’s and do they also have the green spike? Going to get some minus green gels today, I will post results here again.
As for the dead LED’s. The company originally asked me to re-solder the leds, that did not work. So now I need to send them back. From Australia to USA is expensive. So, going to have to live with the faulty LED bank in the mean time, and it could be cheaper to take the Panel to a local repairer rather than sending the unit back to the USA.

Correction… it was set to correct file. To see which one its set to go to CAC property and at the top of the screen it says “Active CAC file No:2” For the default lenses (ie- this one) you cannot set another CAC file, it defaults to the correct lens.

No. No difference. Contacted Canon and Panasonic and they claim that this is normal for this lens. “Canon and Panasonic and feel as the Panasonic 502 only compensates for colour fringing horizontally that under certain conditions that this is what we would expect to see.”
So, essentially what they are saying is, don’t shoot on overcast days or low light with this $20k+ lens or you will have terrible footage.
Great. Glad I got my iPhone 4 last week, it shoots great footage. At least I have not seen any chromatic aberrations yet… 😛To it’s credit, this lens is a very nice lens and generally I am quite happy with it. It just really struggles at full zoom and the 2x extender degrades the image so much its not worth using.
They have offered to look at the lens though. So, I will send it off.

I have looked into the menu and it seems that you are correct. Although it says the CAC is functioning it was set to the KJ17ex not the KJ21. hard to tell on that menu though, once selected it just reads “——” Hopefully this helps.
