Well, I’m not suite sure. My sequence settings match the VX1000 clips as per my original post (720×480, 29.97 fps, DV/DVCPRO – NTSC, 32 KHz, NTSC – CCIR 601). I don’t see any fields under Sequence Settings that say whether or not the timeline is progressive or interlaced.

When you say create an interlaced version for the DVD, do you mean continue to edit the interlaced clips as they are in the 29.97 fps timeline? Or do you mean create a 60i 59.94 fps timeline??
I intended to do the master edit in the SD DVD format and then export that and convert for web streaming as you say.

I was able to contact Graeme and get the Nattress Deinterlacer plugins. This will be mostly viewed on the web, so I’ll try out the various plugins and settings on the VX1000 clips for sure.
What is the Nattress plugin called that deals with the 3:2 pulldown for the 24 fps clips? Perhaps I could get that as well.
I understand mixing 24 fps clips into a 30 fps timeline isn’t technically correct and that FCP duplicates some frames, but I’m fine with the results I’ve gotten.
I’ve also been thinking about if I need to convert the VX1000 video codecs to ProRes 422 to match the Super 8 clips?? I’ve tried converting some clips in MPEG Streamclip and Quick Time 7 with poor results

I have already placed the transparent, off-white area from the sprocket hole inside my text using the alpha travel matte. But, the text edges are still sharp, if I could soften the edges and add that glow to make it look like film it would satisfy my needs.
Either way thanks for the speedy replies, I will have to try my luck in the Motion forum.

It will just be text on top of Super 8 footage, that’s why I want to try to replicate that look. I wasn’t sure if FCP was capable but I figured this was a good place to start. My Super 8 footage still has the sprocket hole on the left, if possible I would like the text to also appear as if you are seeing “through” the film.

I’m aware that the SD footage won’t look great in an HD timeline, but i’m only filming skate videos. I just don’t have the money to shell out on an HD xtreme fisheye yet, so i’m keeping my DVX for fisheye shots.
I was planning on mixing DVX 30p footage with HVX 720 60p footage in a 30p HD timeline. If you were in this situation would you shoot letterbox with the DVX or would you convert the SD in post?

Great thanks for the tips. Are there any benefits to using your DVD method compared to exporting directly from FCP with compressor?

Thanks for the clarification. Those are the settings that I have selected for my sequence and the FCP canvas displays the whole clip properly. When I export to DVD will the image appear the same as it does on my canvas?

I’m just using normal speed 60i footage shot with a dvx and doing a time-remapping in AE 6.0 to do a “ramp slow-mo”. I just have no idea what the proper output settings are if I wanted to edit the clip in Final Cut.
