My Sony Vegas, crashes if I put to many mpeg2 files in to the project. Its somehow RAM related. I’ve noticed that after converting these files to DV, importing them to Vegas uses about ten times less RAM then mpeg2. For me it means ten times more clips in the project.
I’ve tried DV because I’ve read, that’s the format people use for editing.
What I need, is to convert my mpeg files, so that Vegas doesn’t crash, not loose the quality in the process, and keep the same video size, aspect ratio and so on.

Cropping 8 from either side and 6 from top and bottom with Relative Crop got rid of the black stripes, and some video at the top and bottom. In a way the problem is solved.
In the process the video was changed from 704×576 to 720×576, so the main question remains unanswered – is there a way to change the default 720×576 output size while using a DV codec?
If not is there an other codec used for editing that allows full video size customization?

Shouldn’t it always be there?
The source is PAL
I’ll try to use the Relative Crop Video filter, hope I’ll understand how it works 🙂

Could you please be more specific on how can i set this filter? I can’t find video filter preset called Video Source Properties

One more interesting thing.
Video Parameters according to Sony Vegas 9.0 (Build 563)
Format: MPEG-2
Attributes: 704×576
Pixel aspect ratio: 1,0909Format: Canopus DV
Attributes: 720×576
Pixel aspect ratio: 1,0926 (PAL DV) -
Source Parameters according to ProCoder
Video Frame Size: 704×576
Display Size: 720×576
MPEG Aspect ratio: 4 x 3 (default)Target Parameters
Aspect ratio: 4 x 3In Media Player Classic 6.4.9.1 (revision 99) both video windows are the same size. The DV file seems to be a little bit narrow due to the black stripes.
In Sony Vegas the DV file is simply displayed as a wider one. The actual footage size (without the black stripes) is exactly the same size as in the other file.

May 4, 2009 at 6:26 am in reply to: Vegas crashes on mpg import from HDD to project media Exception 0xC0000005Vegas 8.0c first captures the DVD camcorder disc data to HDD creating loads of mpg files, then it imports captured files to the project. I’m able to capture three fully recorded 1,4 GB discs. While Vegas is importing to project the third one pagefile usage exceeds 1,82 GB and Vegas crashes. Using a different HDD doesn’t change anything :/
