We run a very strict path and filename system, so I’m not so worried about that, but I guess it would involve a lot of job for a very simple thing and probably not worth it. It would be cool though 🙂 Maybe I’ll look into it some other time.

Is harvesting metadata from the file path also possible if you’re just ingesting files i CatDV Pro? So if you drag and drop or import files into a catalog, it would pull certain parts of the filename?

A file with the name XYZ_0103_002.mov would then automatically update a field which has the episode number? (In this case 0103)

As of now, we have around 340 000 clips in the whole database. Each project/tv-show have around 10 000 clips divided in different catalogs (usually one catalog per memory card/xdcam-disc/etc).

I see that the Thumbnails are pretty huge. Does CatDV load these files even if has access to the video files?

I tested out opening different catalogs locally on the CatDV Server and I’m experiencing the same delay there – around 2-3 seconds less than on our clients. Housekeeping is on.

Out of curiosity – what is considered a big CatDV database regarding clips?

You bring up a good point here and maybe I’m looking for solutions in the wrong place.

Our current CatDV Server is a Xserve 2×2,26GHz Quad-Core with 24GB RAM and running from a Samsung Enterprise 480GB SSD (with daily backups). I recently changed our system drive to SSD and was hoping for a better responsiveness than I got.

We have about 20 people (on and off) who are logging on different reality shows, mostly the catalogues range from 20-60 clips, but we’re experiencing a rather “long” delay when opening catalogs. A catalog containing let’s say 30 clips often takes around 15-20 seconds to open. This doesn’t happen all the time and its not the end of the world, but I just want to make sure we’re getting the most out of our server.

I get the same “/api/2/session/” error when I try just the IP adress on the app.

On my CatDV server I have to type https://localhost:8080/catdv2 to get the to web version of CatDV. https://localhost:8080 just brings me to apache tomcat.

I’m currently running CatDV Server 6.7. Perhaps its only supported in 6.8?

    Same thing here.

If I try 10.10.10.10:8080 I get the error message: “/api/2/session/” and if I try 10.10.10.10:8080/catdv2/ the app connects but just quits right afterwards.

Seems like Squarebox recently added this page to their Tutorial-page https://www.squarebox.com/exchanging-metadata-with-fcp-x/

Perhaps not exactly what you’re looking for?
