Many thanks for your help.
I have found a slightly different way which works…Just to share with you…
If i capture my footage in imovie it can automatically add cross fade dissolves between clips…..once i have captured all my clips…i then export my movie as an XML file…
In FCP i then do file import, change the file type to ‘all files’ which then allows me open the saved XML file from imovie with all the clips AND transistions in between clips…Majic!
Thanks for your assistance

i have just tried this
i tested with just 4 clips which i dragged into the timeline, with no markers
i then placed the playhead on the last clip and followed your keystrokes
the result was a transition was inserted just at this point only, no transitions were inserted in between the other clips..any further thoughts please?
much appreciated

Sorry for the confusion.
I will try and explain abit more, i have captured an entire tape which has 150 clips into FCP using DV start and stop detection.
When i add the 150 clips into the timeline and try to add a transition in between them, FCP will not let me. I understand this is because each clip needs to have a mark ‘in and out’ point or ‘handles’ to allow the transisition to be inserted.
so my question is i have 150 clips in FCP, how can i add transitions between clips without physically going to each clip and adding mark in and out points?
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

Just to let you know my apple mac pro has arrived.
I am just doing some testing at the moment and it looks good.
I have another question in relation to capturing entire tapes and automatically setting handle points for all the clips captured, so when i transfer the entire clips into the timeline they are in segments and allow me to add transistions. I can split the clips easily using DV/Start stop detection.
Any help would be appreciated?
Thanks

Hi i am fairly new to FCP and would like some help!
I can successfully capture all my DV footage into FCP and then split into clips based on there timecode stamp.
When i add them clips into the timeline and try to add a transition or cross dissolve it doesnt show this dissolve effect in the playback, its just a jump from one clip to the other.
I understand the problem is with the ‘handles setting’ ie i need to overlap the clips in the timeline to add a transition.
Is there a way of setting IN and OUT handle settings say 5 secs in and 5 secs out…then apply this to all clips?
When i use to use pinnacle liquid i could set the handle parameter or ‘leeway’ for clips before capture and when capture started all the clips would come into the timeline, already with the IN and OUT markers, so all i would do is add the transistions between clips.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Many thanks for getting back to me.
The clips i would like to copy after clip 6.
I will try and follow your instructions, my new apple mac pro arrives next week and i will give this a go.
Just one question for now the list of commands you gave me, should i follow them once i have activated watch me do? or do i start to record using watch me do and the list of commands are logged? also can i save this as a plug in for use on future projects?
Your help is much appreciated.

October 7, 2010 at 2:21 pm in reply to: Using Automator (Leopard) with FCP for repetitive tasksHi i am a MAC newby and am looking for all the help i can get.
I would like to know if it possible to use Automator to the following task. Say in a sequence there are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 clips. Then say i want to pick out clip 1, 3, 5 and place them at the end of clip 6. At the same time applyting slow motion to clips 1, 3 & 5 and inserting a transistion effect between clip 1, 3 and 5. Using Automator or another method is it possible to do this in one go using a short cut key? I do alot of wedding videos and this would be huge time saver for me.
Thanks in advance!
