We have the zoom H6 acting as a mixer. Sometimes we have up to 5 lavs. The zoom also records a back up audio file. Good advice on making sure the camera has an XLR input.
Also, I absolutely agree on the DSLR point. Way too much work. Not good for 2 hours shoots.
The editors are using a wide range of platforms, some professional and some consumer.
We want to avoid having to do any conversions before working. It seems like Final Cut X, does the conversation in the background, Final Cut 7 would have to use log and transfer.
The Cannon XA10 seems like a good one.

Do you have suggestion for the best Raid or external device for storage on the iMac Retina with 512 GB Flash Drive? I’m an editor and colorist, using Avid, Premiere, Adobe AFX, and DaVinci. I’m on a tight budget right now. I’m trying to figure out what I can get away with until I can buy (and need more storage). Portability and speed are and budget are the main factors at this point.

I am thinking of purchasing the same set up as Ryan mentioned above, except with only 16GB of RAM, but the 4GB AMD GFX card. I need to run Premiere, After EFX, Divinci Lite, and Media Composer. Apple told me Flash drive would perform faster. I see you purchased with 1 TB Fusion Drive.
I will use mostly external storage for media. Anyone know if this is correct. Would purchase the 512GB Flash Storage.
