Then
tapectl tell– what is the output? You will need to enclose the path in quotes if it has spaces eg
“/Volumes/SAS RAID/ANTHEM restore from LTO“
and I think you need the leading / as per my example.Looking at those error messages I’m not sure if this will fix your restore though.
What state is the drive and tape in? Has it been left since trying to import using Argest? You could try ejecting tape, power cycling your Mac and drive. Then trying the command again. I’m sure there’s a more elegant way to do this but my memory of BRU is a little rusty!

September 2, 2020 at 9:33 pm in reply to: Can’t access Tolis Support – Need to restore tape contents to RAIDIt’s been a while since I’ve used BRU and I don’t have it currently installed but looking at the manual page 81 and 82 you can use macOS terminal commands without opening BRU/Argest app https://www.tolisgroup.com/assets/bru-pe-user-guide-3.1.pdf
Rewind tape to beginning:
tapectl -f ntape0 rewindRestore to path:
bru -xvvvf ntape0 [path to restore to]This assumes your drive is ntape0, you can confirm this with:
tapectl displayThis should restore the entire tape to the specified path. Good luck!

I’m currently considering two options for hardware:
Quantum i3 and the IBM TS3100 with either dual LTO-6 or dual LTO-7 drives.
Software I am looking at Archiware and YoYotta. They both look good but Archiware also provides Backup (rather than Archive) which is appealing because I could do nightly backups of projects on one drive and keep the other for Archiving and Restore.
Has anyone used either the Quantum or the IBM units?

Hi Martin
Thanks for the reply – I’m looking at about 160 TB annually. It’s pretty clear to me that with this amount of data a library is required otherwise we would be forever feeding tapes in and out.
The workflow would be to backup all rushes to LTO as soon as they are ingested. Then at the end of projects we consolidate and delete all unused rushes from our live storage, keeping only the media used in the final timeline(s) online. Then 3 months later the consolidated project would also be archived.
Project restore is random and infrequent so we’re probably going to take tapes out of the library as soon as they are written.
I guess I’m looking for some info on other users real-world experience.
Are there any recommended suppliers in the UK that can supply the hardware and software and provide support?

May 9, 2017 at 10:20 am in reply to: .mov files changing resolution when transferring from external hd to mac bookWhat are you using to do the copy? I can’t see any conceivable way this would happen with a straight Finder copy.
Any chance you are using the Photos app to do this? If so you would need to go to File > Export > Export Unmodified Original For 1 Video.

Are you running headless and VNCing in?
If so try plugging in a monitor.
I’ve had stuff like this happen when running headless and connecting/disconnecting a monitor.

Dan, here’s what my drive sounds like when it’s in “slow mode”.
This is a write operation. 100 GB of RED rushes being pulled from 2 x USB 3.0 G-Drives in RAID 0 (BM disk speed test says 322 MB/s write and 326 MB/s read).
I aborted the write then tried again, worked better with less clicking but still an oscillation between about half and full speed as per my SAN graph.
Doing some more testing but if it’s anything like the issues I’ve been seeing if I reverify this exact tape multiple times I will get average verify times for the complete data set ranging from 20 MB/s to 180 MB/s.

Here’s my SAN i/o during a write I’m running at the moment…
I’m curious as to why are there periods where the speeds aren’t reaching full speed?
I understand that the drive will slow down when writing lots of small files (vs large files), but this pattern is clearly cyclical and repetitive in nature so it doesn’t look like it’s related to the file sizes.
There is no other activity on my SAN at all today apart from this tape write.

10.10.5 here.
What issues have you found with the XENDATA?
