  • Hey! So – I’m not too familiar with toast, but research indicated you’ll get better quality using it over compressor… I’m assuming it needs to go to dvd?? Something I figured out was the m2v file you get out of compressor plays back badly on mac but actually looks a lot better on DVD, so it’s worth burning one off to see how it looks. Hope this helps!

  • Thanks Eric, as much as I’d absolutely love to put out a flawless NTSC DVD I can’t really risk it in this instance. Will remember that for the future though!

  • Martin,

Thanks for this – I’m going to try this method asap and will let you know how I get on.

    Regards,

    James

  • Thanks again Neil

  • Hi Neil,

Thanks for your response. I opted to use Compressor originally for the option to retain the file duration to 100% of source. I have just tried conforming the MOV to 25fps in Cinema Tools and it is flawless, although I do feel the difference in pace is noticable (that may be that I’m way too close to the project but it does include subtitles which I have timed so that you have enough time to read them etc).

I’m currently about to burn a DVD with the film in 4 parts, 2 of which include tilt shots. These 2 parts have frame controls applied to them which should alleviate the stutter (has done in previous efforts). I now just need to burn/check the DVD for consistency.

Failing this I will definitely further explore the Cinema Tools conform option, look into lowering pitch etc.

    Thanks again Neil,

    James

  • Okay so I’ve made some progress – haven’t slept but coffee’s helping.

Basically I’ve discovered that the exported MPEG-2 file you see on your mac is very very different to the DVD you see on your screen – which is actually pretty good. Took me all night to figure that out.

There’s still a couple of slight “wobble” sort of distortions going on around the top of the frame with some camera movement, and the motion looks slightly funny – can’t tell if this is just because I’ve tried to compensate in Frame Controls or it’s just cos it’s 25fps from 24.

I’m tweaking it to get the best results but if anybody has any advice on settings they’ve used I’d appreciate it, cos I can’t really see what I’ve done til I’ve burned off a DVD!

    Cheeeeeerrs!
