Lack of sync indicators annoyed me too because the first thing I did to make FCPX work like 7 was detach the audio.

I still find the notion annoying but I found that once I started working the FCPX way I almost never detach the audio because I never need to.

I campaigned hard for “Override Connections” too. But I never use the tilde key function or hardly ever anyway.

I don’t know why he used a gap clip. It works without that.

I use a few frames of gap if I am wanting to anchor my music to the beginning of the timeline. Unless it’s a music cut thing in which case obviously better to have to on primary storyline.

For sure I remember laying an hour of black down on lo band UMatic edits.

Can one speculate as to what Apple would not have included some of the basic things like audio only and also make favourites effect so that one has 3,4,6,12 frame choose from. (I have now found a way of creating these but it’s not nearly as simple to do as in Legacy).

With audio only edits is it possible that they missed something very simple and that it’s too late for them to put it right now and that for some technical reason it’s impossible? Because we are about 4 years down the line now and it hasn’t happened yet. There must be a reason.

Speaking of room tone that’s one of the features that looks really cool to me about RX4. It “finds” it behind other speech and inserts it where you need it.

Only because so few of the wave of young turks seem to know what a buzz track is any more.

The bigger issue for me in X is that popping sound on the cut. Most times I can get it with the handles but it’s annoying.

Thanks. Of course the audio only business depends on what you are doing. if speed is the issue of course it will help but that’s not my personal priority most of the time.

I don’t seem to get the audio popping except in Multicam when I have applied audio filters. What are the problems you encounter?

The popping business I am aware of in Multicam where X quite unnecessarily adds an audio edit where only a video edit is required. I am surprised this had not yet been addressed as the workaround of having to drag your main audio out across the timeline to get rid if the edits is tedious.

Much as I am a convert every now and then I am reminded that FCPX is not really “there” yet and for a “professional” tool there are still some rather “unprofessional” idiosyncrasies that should really have been sorted by now especially if one wants to win an argument with Aindreas Gallagher.

Oliver Peters’ suggestion that it is a great creative offline tool but not really a finishing tool somewhere in this thread is a salient observation perhaps.

If I were to want to master to tape a stereo master with separate M&E on Audio 3 and 4 is that even possible with X? (Forgive me if this has been debated a million times but I have not seen it)

Oliver Peters This is light years faster than adjusting fade handles manually for every clip in/out, not to mention also having to extend the handle to create an overlap.

I agree if speed is your main thing. I do wonder how much faster though than fine tuning every one in the first instance. But you have to go back over them all anyway and a fair few must need tweaking. I have to go back over them all too but maybe have to adjust fewer of the transitions.

I use Alex 4D audio only for rough assemblies. But I find there is a temptation to be lazy and use it as my own default. I also agree it is puzzling that audio fade was not built not the software from the get go. What could the reason be?

But it’s been good for me not having it there. I have enjoyed the discipline (albeit more laborious) of taking a little more time with, and control of my audio and that this functionality in X is much better than Legacy/Legend (what do we call it now?). This added audio control is one of the things I most like about FCPX. It allows me to do stuff I would have to send to an audio person in the past as Pro Tools and Logic are not in my toolbox. So much more accurate and precise. I love it.

FCPX requires you to buy the ad dons you need and no the ones you don’t need. I like that. I don’t have to pay for functionality i do not need.

Incidentally I like having more control over my audio fas. it’s much more like an audio application like Logic or Pro tools.

Default audio cross fades are a bit of a “bodge” IMHO. Audio needs to be a bit more subtle than that ideally.

My reference to having an agenda was not addressed at you Peter.

You know I made a posting on another forum so close to yours about 24 months ago (little longer). Could not get my head round it. I wanted to make it work the way i was used to working . It drove me nuts and I abandoned three projects with it and went back and did them in FCP7.

You have to be prepared to change if not then probably PP is the way to go.

What made the difference for me was the Ripple Tutorials and taking a little bit of time out to learn FCPX from scratch.
