    You are using 4K footage?

    What are your deliverables?

    Just asking

That is an excellent suggestion/idea. I think that would be the solution. This was before I was using snapshots and realized their usefulness. I use them now assume that would work in the same way it locks in a compound clip. Someone should test it for me. :

It’s nice to occasionally be able to contribute. Would copying and pasting the project be any different to a basic duplicate? (sorry I am going off topic a bit))

“So I duplicated my sequence and you come to realize that if you change anything in that multicam, it’s going to change the original version”.

I had no idea you could not duplicate a Multicam project and not make changes without it affecting the original. Is that what you are saying? Even as a snapshot?

    I get you.

I’m not qualified to proffer an opinion but will read with interest thanks.

Apart from in FCPX every video cut in a Multicam clip is also an audio cut and there is nothing you can do about it apart form drag out the audio from one of the clips containing your master audio and deleting the rest. So if PP just cuts the video and leaves no invisible edits in the audio that would be one to you.

I’ve been looking at some of the Adobe tutorials and it (the interface) looks rather complicated to me (but so foes 7 now). In PP do you have an “Angle Editor” as such, like in FCPX? Double click on Multicam sequence and it takes you to another timeline with all your synched up cameras for fine tuning sync?

One of the great features is to use Multicam for multi take single camera shoots where you can approximate sync and then and nudge them around in the angle editor. This of course does not apply to you Herb.

Is the truth that there really isn’t much in it?

I can’t even remember how Multicam worked in Legacy and why I prefer X.

The bottom line is I understand why you would stick with something more familiar as I did.

But I have yet to hear from anybody who has stuck with FCPX and learnt its “new way” (yes time consuming) who has not had a light bulb moment and thought “this makes a lot of sense” despite the odd idiosyncrasy. And then you just don’t wanna go back.

[Tim Wilson] ” Maybe FCPX actually IS the best choice for every task.

I would dearly love to spend a day with Herb showing how brilliant FCPX Multicam is. Other than that I cannot help persuade him because I have never used Adobe PP in Multicam mode – my only previous Multicam experience was FCP ‘Legend’ (as it now seems to be called). My opinion is therefore of limited value to anyone using PP.

But if one makes a claim like “Something I’d say X does exponentially better than any other NLE on the market btw”. It is bold indeed.

One needs to be able to substantiate this claim in some way (albeit subjective) if it going to have any credibility or value to the rest of us on the forum who are here to learn and occasionally share any snippets of wisdom of our own.

It’s great to have you back Robin where have you been?

We come here to debate. You come here to point score, put people down, argue and point score some more.

There is nobody on this forum whose contributions are consistently more antagonistic and unhelpful than yours.

I simply don’t think you “get” this place.

So I really have to wonder why you’re even here in this forum, other than to sing the praises of other/your NLE and continuously proclaim how insufficient and useless FCP X is.

Forgive me as I am sure Herb can answer for himself better than I but I think Herb is here to keep his eye on things on the other side of the fence and contribute to the healthy debate.

Wouldn’t it be dull and actually useless if all anybody did here was blow smoke up Apple’s arse and sing the praises of FCPX (which does have its deficiencies after all).

Apple has made themselves synonymous with ground-breaking innovation, so if they want to keep making money, they can’t just release a string of awesome products that people love. They need to release a string of ground-breaking awesome products that people love.

I think what was groundbreaking about FCP Legend was just the price no? For a long time it “did the job ” just. DV quality to start with and then some people started making third party hardware and cards.

So Isn’t this the same story? Exactly?

  • As someone who has at times bet his money on “bleeding edge” technologies, this is an interesting topic. From a business perspective being an early adapter is a risky business plan,

A good example out be Digital Heaven over here in the UK who set up the first Final Cut pro facility in London and their business failed although I am pleased to say they are still happily devoting and selling plugins.

Had Cold Mountain come out a year earlier they would have survived. Risky brines indeed. Not sure if Martin b`kier from Digital Heaven read the Cow but his perspective would be valuable here.
