There is not s duration limiter. Since Avid went to MXF, a clip can be hours long with no issue.

Avid links material based on source name and timecode.

The first thing I would do is open a new project, and link just 1 clip using AMA or as few as possible using AMA, then see if it works.

I anticipate your camera probably named each clip the same thing (Some P2 cameras do this). 001.mxf, 002.mxf, then when you change cards it starts again at 001.mxf.

Some of the benefit/detriment of working with FCP or Premier is that they allow you to mask problems. You can import a clip from multiple locations and it will keep them separate (until something becomes unlinked, then it is a disaster). Avid requires you get this straight up front, otherwise your clips could become a jumble, mashup of each other. This would be like shooting a film, and having the same keycode on each frame.

The proper workflow would be to rename your P2 files something unique (using a P2 utility, not sure if you are mac or pc). Then AMA link them in and start working. Eventually you should consolidate your clips by selecting in your bin, right clicking and consolidate.

Remember in FCP where, everything worked better if you imported and rendered everything in prores? You need to consolidate your material, which gathers it into a specific location where Avid can always find it. It does not convert you material, but it tracks it better.

Everything points to permissions.

Can you create a new Mac user with admin permissions, then log out and login as that user. Then try installing it. Or enable the root user and install it. The root would definitely do it, but that is dangerous if you don’t know what you are doing.

Sometimes problems make no sense.

Try putting your C300 files inside another folder, then point to that root with Avid ama?

Can you use the XF utility to open the files?

All of the variables seem happy. Not sure what the next logical step is.

Resinstalling may help. It is clearly seeing the Canon plugin.

Inside the Avid go under tools – > console

at the little command prompt type in:
list ama_plugins

all plugins should be listed if they are linking properly.

If they are not, confirm plugins are in the Libaray->Application support->Avid ->AVX2_Plugins ->AMA and make sure there are AMA plugins there.

If they are there, but not listed, then reinstall Media Composer and try again. It may be a permissions issue.

Steps:

output your entire masterclip to tape by dropping masterclip into a new sequence. Then redigitize it back in.

Open both clips in floating windows (by pressing alt or option on keypad when click it in the bin).

Choose a sync point on both and mark an IN.

Select both clips in bin and go under Bin and choose Group.

Load the new group clip into the monitor.

Go under tools/command palette. Choose Active Palette. Go to multicam tab and choose Quad split. This will show both clips in source window (grouped)

Go to your final timeline and scrub to the first clip to be replace. Mark in-out on that segment. Go to source monitor and find corresponding timecode of original material. Click on new footage in source monitor, in the group clip. mark an In. Replace.

The first step is to see what file is being referenced.

Go into a new bin and drag your subclip or sequence into that bin. Then go under the fast menu (looks like a hamburger in the lower left corner). and choose set bin display. Choose to show reference clips.

It will reveal the clips that are being referenced.

It sounds to me like the files that were imported were named the same thing, or have the same tapename info.

Not sure how it is possible, but Avid links things based on clipname and timecode. If you have the same clipname and timecode, or all bets are off.

This could certainly be an Avid software issue, but I have not seen it.

Is the sound wrong, or just out of sync? It could be linking to the wrong material.

Out of sync seems quite odd. Is it the same version of Avid that you have been working with?

The attic stores old version of the whole bin, not just sequences.

However, if you have a linking problem that may not help.

AMA linking is usually pretty straight forward, but nothing is perfect.

If you select your sequence in your bin (not by selecting your timeline in the interface). The go under Clip at the top menu and select Transcode. You should have an option for handles, then choose an Avid DNxHD resolution to transcode into. Select the drive to put it on.
