It’s been a few months since the release. Are there any new quirks with Media100 under 10.7.2? Is it friendly with RED5?

  • I move still pictures around frequently with Media100 & RED and the results are very clean, diagonals included.

Is the quality different if you export your project from RED as an MOV file than when you return to the Media100 and render there?

Are you viewing both fields of the Media100 output on your monitor?

In Media100, what quality/codec settings are you using?

  • Here are a couple more examples of the render glitch from today.

There are a couple layers in the Media100 timeline but the glitch only occurred in the uppermost one which is a static text layer containing the hours info & the fade to black. All other elements are on lower layers.

  • v9.0.6 is the latest version.

In the AJA control panel info window, scroll down to the bottom of the list. Does it indicate any conflicting QuickTime components?

What version of OSX are you using? 10.6.8+ affects clips using the Media100i codec.

This is from the release notes for Suite2.1 but probably affects prior versions:

    A Note About Mac OS X 10.6.8
Apple released the Mac OS X 10.6.8 update in June 2011. A bug in this update disables playback with the Media 100 i Codec in NTSC 601 format. We are working with Apple to find a solution but the eventual outcome is unknown. We recommend that you not install the 10.6.8 update if you have existing i Codec media.

A Note About Mac OS X 10.7 “Lion”
Apple released the Mac OS X 10.7 update in July 2011. A bug in this version disables playback with the Media 100 i Codec in NTSC 601 format. We are working with Apple to find a solution but the eventual outcome is unknown. We recommend that you not install the 10.7 update if you have existing i Codec media.

  • If you launch the AJA Control Panel and look under info, what version drivers does it say are installed?

  • Checked drives with disk utility or disk warrior? Scanned for infections? Try free versions of iAntiVirus or Sophos.

    Dumped Media100 preference files?

Updated AJA drivers? Have you tried Media100 with video output set to none?

    Jaeson

  • Are the drives mirrored?

Do you have any active apps in the background, like an anti-virus program or automatic updates running?

I like to start the day with a fresh system reboot.

  • 720x486i SD 29.97.

When I first saw the glitches, I thought it was something with the source tape/deck (HDV), maybe dirty heads. But the raw clips are clean. The footage is shot in 1080i. For the SD projects, we set the deck to do the downconversion. Media100 acquires it in SD with the prores codec.

The garbage chunks that appear are random. The examples posted were from a single title layer with a static text object in the lower 3rd. It happens with more complicated overlays too. Sometimes it will happen with a simple dissolve effect between the A/B tracks.

Re-rendering will clear things up. The garbage may appear in the re-rending, but not in the same location. For this particular project, I had to re-render the title layer twice to get a clean version.

We have two identical systems and I’ve seen it happen on both. Still using OSX10.6.7 because we still have a bunch of older projects that need revisited for updates.

When I get the import/permissions error, it’s usually with non-media100-codec files imported from shared drives (I have full read/write access). If I copy the file to a local drive, then there’s no problem. It seems like it happens more often with our new intel macs than our old g5 systems, but it did occur there too.

Sometimes checking the permission settings on the folder and doing an apply to enclosed items will help but not always.
