    And here’s 2 cents:

I find that repairing permissions on my main drive often makes a surprising difference in overall speed – including FCP. Defragging the drives on which you store your clips will help, but also defrag your applictation drive.

Don’t have any idea why permission get bunged up when I haven’t changed anything in the system, but they do, and runnng repair from APPLICATIONS/UTILITIES/DISK UTILITY makes a difference for me.

Color smoothing will help, but I find I often need to add a mtte edge softener to help. Under Video Filters, you’ll find Mattes and in there are a couple different fllters you might try to see if you get a better looking key.

Here’s one more thought, apply 3-way color corrector and adjust to help better define edges. I’d sugges the following order of filters:

    411 color smoothing
    3-way color corrector
    chroma key
    matte feather

Thanks for the tip, however, not a satisfying solution. With Atto SCSCI and double space Nvidia 6800, there’s no room for more PCI cards to run the LaCie drives. I used to be able to work with my Motu 828 and DSR11 and want to now -spoiled brat that I am. How is it I can have all those drives and Motu running, plus other FW drives I use to move my work to on-line facility, etc., but I get flummoxed when I plug in the DSR11? Probably a questionw without a good answer.

Clearly something changed in the softwre over the years that now creates an unpleasant conflict.

I do appreciae your thoughtful help.

I have two LaCie big drives piggybacked on the FW800 port. And of course the Motu 828 audio unit. Other than that, none.
