    You can try again with the magic wand tool, but enable the ‘contiguous’ box at the top of the window when the magic wand is selected.

    You could also apply a curves adjustment, push the whites until your off white appears white, and mask this adjustment to only affect the background.

    Not sure if you mean your composition window is zoomed out, or your assets in the comp are small.

    You can zoom in on your comp by scrolling, ctrl and + , or choosing a percentage in the bottom left of the comp window.
    If your assets are small you can scale them up by selecting one in your timeline, pressing ‘s’ and increasing the value.
