    To expand on Adam’s response, I’ll bet that it’s a fresnel shader placed in the material’s “Color” channel. Since each face seems to change color quickly as it moves, I’d also guess that the gradient he used in that fresnel was pretty tight, i.e. very little fade/transition from color to color across the gradient.

    I’ve had success rendering out a Photoshop still of the frame in question, and re-importing it as footage. Then I can adjust the in/out/duration of the freeze frame as needed. It’s a trick I stole from Final Cut Pro.

    Michael Szalapski’s response seems to be the best, most efficient way from within AE.
