Mark, you have to go to Perferences – Export and switch from Premiere 6 to Premiere CC.
I figured that out, yet still haven’t gotten it to work… I mean noting happens when I try to Send to CC. Anybody out there have it working?

John,
What we’ve been doing in my shop – at least for ‘final’ renders getting posted to the web – is export ProRes master files, then put those through Apple Compressor. It’s an extra step, but aside from the benefit of having HD masters, Compressor has better control for batch processing and plays better with the Matrox CompressHD H.264 hardware encoding card we use. You could do the same thing with Telestream Episode which is even better (or Sorenson Squeeze) and even automate your workflow with scripts or a watch folder.
Good luck,

localhost:8080 brings me to the default Tomcat home page on the catdv machine.

July 11, 2012 at 7:08 pm in reply to: Using QuickTime Reference files, proxy audio only (sometimes)Thanks for your comments. This helps me understand that we should probably use ProRes(Proxy) to export rough cuts, or perhaps a native-format, self-contained sequence export (usually xdcam-ex in our case). I’ll have to test which is faster/smaller.
I’d like to follow up with the question: would transferring sequences (w/ multi-cam, effects, mixed formats) via XML to CatDV be a viable option to consider? I’m tempted to think that puts a heavy burden on CatDV to reconstruct on-the-fly…
Thanks again,

SOLVED. Rolf, you’re a genius. Your suggestion to upgrade my Calibrated MXF component to the latest version (2.2.0) resolved the issue. The magic-door to FCP7 now works as it should, in CatDV v10 (though not in v9).
Thanks again!

Rolf,
I tried the Re-Analyze Media command but it failed, saying
“Reanalysing 0007NK failed (File not found for ‘0007NK’)”So I created a new catalog in CatDV 10.0b6 and imported that whole P2 camera card. Tried the FCP backdoor, still appeared distorted. Tried Export to XML for FCP7, still distorted. Opened and modified that XML file to change 1280 to 960, then it appeared correctly in FCP.
I couldn’t find that new “EncodedDimension” field you mentioned. I’m attatching here a ZIP of the exported FCP XML, as well as CatDV XML and a PDF of Clip Summary for your reference.
4369_p2spannedclipxml.zipPlease let me know if there’s anything else I can try. Thanks again for all your help with this.

I’m sorry, Rolf, but the fix in v10.0b6 is not working for me. I tried
1. on the existing catalog, using the magic door to FCP7
2. on the existing catalog, export to FCP7 XML
3. re-import footage to new catalog, magic door
4. new catalog, export to FCP7 XMLBoth times the XML needed to be modified by hand to come through correctly. My footage is DVCProHD 720p60, and the XML listed its width as 1280. When I change that to 960 it looks ok. But that was the same in CatDV v9
The v10 interface is looking nice, though!
Thanks,

Rolf, I’m finding the same issue with DVCPRO HD 720p files as well. It’s really tricky to get the single files to mix in a sequence with the spanned (sequenced) ones, because they each react differently to resizing the canvas as you suggest…
UPDATE: Modifying the XML is working for me. I can batch many “spanned clips” in one export, then search and replace in BBEdit. Thanks for the tip!
Nick and I can’t be the only ones experiencing this issue – anyone else out there??
Thanks,
Jack
