Well Bob, I must admit, I’m a little disappointed you didn’t know that NSA handles all the metadata. I thought everyone knew that.

Alex, indiestor appears to be right up my alley.

    Thanks Bob,

I’m confused about one thing. I thought NSA handled all the metadata…

Thanks for laying out my needs…Now, do you think I can save some money by using my telephone cables instead of ethernet 😉

    Thanks Bob,

I definitely need to be able to share storage that two computers can write to, but I don’t need to share projects.

Any thoughts on using SNS XTarget combined with Xsan?

    Thanks again Alex,

Would you mind providing a small list of software options?

    Thanks Alex,

What kind of problems does Avid have sharing over AFP?

I do not want project sharing. When my assistant is done prepping, I’ll import the bins into my project.

Bob, I’m very aware of the pre-made products available through and endorsed not only by this site, but specifically by you. Your responses are quite often the broken record of replies. Right now, those aren’t the solutions that best suit my particular situation. Which is why I presented the question. And please correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t what these types of sites are for? A pool of gleanable knowledge that help people find solutions and answers for their particular situations.

The next time I’m looking for a product solution, I’ll just type your name in and read from the valuable pool of endorsements. In the mean time, perhaps a deep breath and a walk might be good solution for you.

    -cheers

The only differences I’m seeing are block sizes and energy consumption:

Is performance the only difference? And how big a difference are we talking, specifically when working with multiple layers of 2k video?

I imagine it’s fair to say there’s a lot you don’t know about me. You’re absolutely right, buying a box with an expander installed would be easier. There are a lot things in this world that offer simple and costly solutions. Which happens to be why I own quite a few plumbing tools.

I’ve posted a similar topic on the boards, but I’m wondering why you didn’t go with the Areca 8026 expander. Wouldn’t that have eliminated the motherboard you used in your build?
