Hi Tanya,

I think you are trying to export the RAM preview.
You need to select the composition you would like to render, then hit ‘CTRL+M’ on your keyboard, this will bring you to the ‘Render queue’ where you can set up file name and format, then you need to click the ‘Render’ button.

I would use track matte to solve this masking.
I attached a picture to show an example

1. draw a shape where you want the ball to be masked out, over your ball layer
2. set alpha inverted matte for the ball layer

I also attached the AEP file

I usually fix this by going to the first frame of my work area, then I press ‘Space’ on the keyboard. After a few frames are rendered, I can do a RAM preview
