In Manual audio mode you have to go to Audio Menu and Trim Level from default -41db down to -35db or even lower to -29db or so… Gain should be between 5 and 6…

In Manual Audio mode for the best quality Gain should stay between 5 and 6, use Trim in Audio menu to adjust the levels, so there is no distortion. Good Luck!

  • After long hesitations I ‘bit a bullet’ and did it myself… Just read and follow the instructions carefully. It is recommended to power the camera from AC and have battery attached also. I did it with a desktop PC. Others recommend using a laptop both with a battery, and AC adapter. Just don’t rush!..

    Good Luck!

  • Hi, Brent,

You did not mention, what adapter you were using, also, recent Transcend class 6 cards were reported as having inconsistent quality… The latest MxM / Hoodman lockable and e-LCR lockable (from E-Films) adapters combined with high quality cards, like ATP Promax or Sandisc class 10, have great reliability and are mostly recommended.

The most important thing is to upgrade to the latest firmware version, and, I am sure, you will forget about any kind of media errors…

You can try these freeware programs to recover the clip:
    TestDisk https://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk and
    PhotoRec https://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec

    Jeff,

Place the card into the camera and switch it into Media mode. Do you see the icon of that missing clip? If yes, try to play it. If it plays, probably, the file is corrupted somewhere on the card – if it is the case, playback will halt at some point with the message “Media error, playback halted”.

In this case, using Expand and Divide options, you can save portions of the clip just before, and after the corrupted point. I had the same issue and managed to loose only 3 sec. of the corrupted clip…

It is important to upgrade to the latest firmware version – all kind of media errors disappeared, when I upgraded my EX-1 from v.1.11 to v. 1.20…

    Good Luck!
