Unfortunately what I am dealing with is a pre-edited timeline. (imported through AAF),
which means the clips are already in the timeline in a certain order which I want to follow along.

the only way I think your process can be of use it if I could somehow export the data from the EDIT index window instead, make the changes according to that order and then import it back to the media window…. mmm…

is that even possible?

I encountered an error while trying to use this expression:
“expression result must be of dimension 4, not 1”

any clues?

also… while you are at it, will be nice if you can send a version of the script that doesn’t have a transition within.

It’s not really renaming the clip per se. because the clips on the media tab window won’t be effected by that.

it’s only a representation in the burn-in to what clip no# it is on the timeline. this can be useful if you have hundreds of clips (like in my case) and you don’t want to spend time on re-naming each-one separately.

btw, there IS a tab that gives no# to each clip according to the order of the edit in the Edit tab which is called Edit Index, but the burn in doesn’t take it’s information from that window…. so I guess there is no way to link the Custom Text option that Brent Marginet was referring to.

I admit this is not one of the more interesting of threads around creative-cow…. but if a solution could be found, it WILL save time for many editors to come.

if anybody can help here, that would be great.
reposting my Q’s:

I asked about the burn in of a clip# according to it’s place on the timeline. meaning the first clip will get a S001 the 2cd – S002 and so on. since I have more then 200clips in the timeline, I want to find a way to do it without naming each clip seperatly. that why I thought the burn in opt could be a good solution for that.
