Great – thanks for the responses.

As I looked through my sequence settings, I was surprised to see that it did say dv/dvcpro ntsc as my settings, even though the general settings of final cut only says DV. So – I suppose that is the answer there.

Of course the output looks bad – but I also noticed that there was some serious interlacing going on, so I turned off the fields, and changed it to progressive, and that took care of those problems. Those settings were in the sequence->settings menu as well, in case anyone else is reading this.

I was surprised that Final Cut “took it upon itself” to interlace, even though I would rather hand that responsibility off to DVDSP. Clearly, FCP does not handle interlacing well at all, considering my text was terrible. Just my two cents there.
