    Hi,
I have a question I was hoping you may be able to help me with.

    1. I have a DV PAL movie made from Final Cut Pro, I needed to send this on DVD to the US, so I actually used TOAST and re encoded the DVD as NTSC which was probably a dumb thing to do, it made an NTSC dvd, most of it is OK, however on certain bits of movement I get a sawtooth look, which i assume is a interlace or field issue. I see this when I play it back on a PAL TV, MY DV PAL movie plays fine.

As I have sent a number of these DVD’s off to the States, will this interlace/sawtooth problem appear on TV’s in the US ?

    2. When making another NTSC movie from my PAL DV, I put a shift field filter on my PAL DV movie and put it to LOWER and when I exported this new NTSC movie it played fine..is this what I should do ? what is the best way to export a NTSC movie from FCP should I be using compressor ?

    thanks

I am using only the one shift fields filter. and still looks bad on playback

if I set all fields to lower in the item properties in FCP the playback looks fine for all my footage, is changing the field dominance in item properties really shifting the fields ? as it doesn’t want to be rendered after doing this ?

I don’t have a problem so much with DVPAL as you know what you are getting, can I have a DVPAL project with footage that has lower fields, upper and NONE, will this cause problems going out to digi betacam ? or will be work around above solve this ?

    thanks

I have tried a test with this, made a new sequence uncompressed 10 bit (upper fields) copied my sequence into this put a shift fields filter on the DV PAL footage to lower however on playback the DV footage on CRT monitor now looks stuttery…am I missing something here ?

    thanks for reply,
yes I am viewing everything on an external CRT monitor, the frustrating thing is, the mixed fields FCP project plays back fine…its once I try and turn everything into lower fields (i am DVPAL) that I get weird things happening, would changing the settings in my project to NO fields re render the while thing as DV pal, solve this ? as I guess once I make a dv PAL movie it will be lower fields

exported DV PAL project to mini DV tape, which plays back fine, after transfering this to Digital Betacam, parts but not all of the of the video are steppy on playing back of the digital betacam ? could it be a field issue ?, should I make the DV PAL movie with no fields for transfer to digital betacam ?
    thanks
