Cinemon will behave the same way. It’s not there there’s no Time Code support; the limitation only applies to clips that contain breaks.

Greg is correct in that this is more of an NLE limitation. Mp4-EX Import and Cinemon will behave the same way when dealing with clips that have TC breaks. Avid also does the same thing, as does our own standalone MXF player for optical XDCAM files. Most NLEs do not parse the entire TC range for a file– they look at the first frame, the # of frames, the frame rate of the video and then they interpolate. XDCAM optical camcorders have a feature called ‘Clip Continuous Recording’ which, when enabled, causes the camera to create one long MXF file with markers placed at record starts/stops. If you use this mode with TOD you will get a single XDCAM file with discontinuous TC. When imported into most NLEs, Continuous TOD clips will erroneously show unbroken TC…

You may also want to check out the Cinemon.mp4 plugin from Sony. It’s a QT plugin that allows for native import, QT playback and OS preview of EX .mp4 files.

Hi Hans,
This is happening because the deck’s free naming function is turned off. When this is the case an exported file can only have the next available ‘Cxxxx’ name. On the deck, change menu 36, ‘File Naming,’ from ‘Cxxxx’ to ‘Free.’ After this you can use arbitrary file names.

Can you try Clip Browser 2.6 or XDCAM Browser 1.0? The ‘restart’ message indicates a kernel panic. If you export clips to the desktop and then drag them to the /Clip folder on the disc, does the system still crash? What about if you start with locally (i.e. not on your FW drive) stored media?

Hi Alex,
Support for SD clips requires FCP 7.0.3. Earlier versions will not acknowledge the MPEG SD files. If you already have a version of 7 you can update to the latest from the Apple site.

Hi Mika,
Do you know your version of Clip Browser, the FAM driver and deck firmware? The deck firmware can be found in the maintenance menu (shift + home + menu) under Others–>Software Version. You can verify the FAM driver version using the FAM Driver Utility that’s loaded with XDCAM Transfer. The Utility should be in your /Utilities folder.
The crashes are only occurring if you go out to the deck directly?
Have you had a look at the crash logs? If you can post the ‘crashed thread’ info that might give us some additional clues..

Will Clip Browser 2.6 display the files or allow you to manually import them? If Transfer is not seeing them I’m concerned that the files or the metadata may have been damaged or otherwise not copied over correctly.
You can also download the trial version of the Sony Cinemon.mp4 QuickTime plugin, which allows for native playback and native FCP support, and see if QT or FCP can open the files with this plug in installed.

understood– the listing could be a bit more clear. 2.12 is the Snow Leopard compatible version but also supports Leopard.

XDCAM Transfer 2.12 can open loose MP4s. I’d upgrade to 2.12, copy all the mp4s to one location and then add that folder as a ‘source’ in Transfer.
Clip Browser can also manually import the files to a new BPAV. This is time consuming, so try the above first. If you can’t get them recognized in Transfer, open up CB (preferably 2.6), create a new folder, park the cursor on the new folder and then file–>import the .mp4s. This will create a new BPAV with new metadata inside the folder you specified.
