Thanks for the reply – it looks like .NET2 is already installed. So, I found an older version of the Blu-ray .m2v file of my movie and tried to drop it in DVD Architect 5 – works fine, no problem at all. I dropped it in the Blu-ray Disc template: MPEG-2 1440×1080-24.000p, 16:9 / AC-3 Stereo which is what I rendered the other in. Works fine as you can see in attached picture

But my new render with a single title card change, rendered exactly the same at: (Blu-ray 1440×1080-24p, 25 Mbps video stream – default 15 iframes) and I can’t this new .m2v file to drop in DVD Architect….

Can someone please help! I don’t know what I’m missing – nothing has changed, I’m on the exact same machine rendering a file the exact same way and need to burn this final updated render so we can press the film on Blu-ray and send to get duplicated. But it keeps freezing DVD Architect. I must be missing something.

Hi community –

Any ideas out there on what’s going on with .m2v? It’s been a couple years since I’ve tried to load Blu-ray .m2v in Sony DVD architect. Never had it freeze before like what is occurring. Please help!

BREAKTHROUGH –

The codec situation worked by installing XVID with video files and then the remaining .m4a files that wouldn’t read, I just re-rendered individually as .wav files in my Vegas 8 and then reinserted in Vegas 13 timeline. And then I was able to export XML file.

One more note –

I tried to replace files that were offline in the timeline with new location (from original computer C: to new computer E:) and an error pops up about a codec…

So I installed XVid and at moment I can see most of the timeline! The only media that is offline are .m4a files and a .wav or two

Russ, thanks so much for the response! So, a couple of answers to this first part – my system is XP and it’s 32bit. The videos seem to be all 24bit (xvid .avi). My version of Vegas (Pro 8) definitely supports the files. I’ve cut much larger and more information HD files on this machine no problem.

It looks like the version of Vegas 13 is 64bit on a much newer version of windows. When I brought all the files/folders over and tried to open in Vegas 13 it says files are missing and then I choose new locations. Eventually the edit does load, but half the files say media offline (see attached picture) – so useless to me presently

Unlike how it typically goes, once .veg loads, if I save and shutdown, I have to spend 10 minutes manually choosing each file even if in same folders! Never experienced this before

I just put another trial of Sony Vegas Pro 13 on a Windows 10 laptop. Spent 10 minutes attaching each missing file individually to files in E: (where all the files were) – there was no option to quickly attach all to E:

When it finally loads it pops up: “Warning: An error occurred while trying to open a project file from a previous version. The item was not found.” The details read: “An error occurred opening the media file. The media file could not be located”

Where do I go from here – any way to make my edit readable on a version of Vegas that can export a file for Final Cut???

(new info – wednesday evening, 13th) – was able to load my timeline into
a new .veg and render out another working copy of the movie with
‘disable resample’ checked. Tried ‘smart resample’ after and the
render got stuck again at 17%. So, I’m not able to test smart resample
yet. Anyone know why this is happening?

I used all the settings that you recommended and got a pretty
good looking Blu-ray copy. Some footage still seemed a little extra bumpy than I remember it being when I screened the film SD on a projector last year, but I just watched it on a 20 foot theatre screen on Blu-ray, so that may be why i’m more sensitive to the bumps in my
camera movement. But i’m still investigating.

I left the disable resample on for the first render because some of
the pans are fast, and/or shaky. For tomorrow’s screening, i’m going
to have everything set to “smart resample” as you recommended and I’ll
note the difference (not able to yet…..)

Something I wasn’t sure on. My project properties are set to: Field Order: Upper Field First and the Render settings to: Field Order: none (progressive scan). Is this problematic, likely to cause any motion
issues? I left Upper on the project settings because you didn’t mention i should change it. nor did I change from Gaussian on project settings. Are these both correct settings for my particular project?

Update on my update –

with settings listed in post, i tried a file with everything
set to ‘disable resample’ and that version crashed too! Stopped
at 61% – does anyone know why i’m having crashes when I try either
disable or smart resample?

Dunno if my last post went through. I tried ‘smart resample’ and my
render froze at 16%. Anyone know why? I’ve had to resort back
to ‘disable’, just so I can have a file to work with tomorrow.

A quick additional note for John –

I’m just back in the timeline after the project properties adjustment.
I’ve never seen mouths of people on video move so fast! and fingers fly! Seems like any motion is sped up. Has de-selecting ‘disable resample’ caused this? I’m okay with it for now if the final result is smooth, but would be very hard to edit with new settings. What do
you think is going on?

Hi John,

Thanks for the steps and explanation. I’m about to render out a
new file based on your suggestions. Can you tell me if the following
sounds good?

Project properties are back to 29.97 (HDV 1080-60i Template). And I changed every piece of video/titles/film clip/still photo to ‘Smart Resample’ (under Switches if someone has similar situation). Are my settings of Field order – Upper field first / Motion blur: Gaussian / Deinterlace: None, set as they should be?

My project properties audio is set to Stereo (not a 5.1 surround project – i saw on another of your posts you have to set this early in your work) / 48,000HZ / 16 Bit depth / Best quality

And then on video Render settings, I’m going to render using Blu-ray 1440×1080-24p, 25 mbps template (w/video quality – High (31)) – should I keep Field order – Upper field first like project properties?

And on the audio side, would you use Dolby Digital AC-3 Pro or Studio,
and what template/settings?

Last step, will we be set to burn out a good Blu-ray disc (after dropping in MPEG Streamclip) with our Toast settings: MPEG-2 format/ Average bit – 24.0Mbps/ Maximum bit – 24.5Mbps / Re-encoding – Never?

I’ll try a new copy and screen once I hear back.
