Thanks for your response Ed. What settings in vegas 5 do I need to select for maximum image quality? I thought I did this. The bitrate was set and dual pass set this is why I cant understand the size issue I had, I suppose the bitrate fluctuated down to 6000 or something resulting in this size. Any more info on this would be great.

thanks for your reply, I know i can use the effects stuff, I am talking about applying things like composite types like screen, alpha etc. The effects that are listed under the track header are not available on individual clips or are they
