January 15, 2012 at 4:16 pm in reply to: Batch relink Ama Footage (just like in FCP ?)what you wrote makes perfect sense… in theory, it should reconnect just like in FCP…. however, this is unfortunately not the case yet with AMA.
in order to relink AMA files while moving between systems you might need to go through a bit of Avid voodoo
here is a step by step.
hope this helps1. hopefully you have a bin with all linked material. i usually keep one before i make copies of my clips and divide them into bins, helps to have one spot i know contains everything (and helps in relinking too)
2. open that bin
3. open a new bin and link to AMA all your files (again) they will have original names and your sequences and logging clips will still show as offline (its OK, just a step)
4. go back to your main media bin and select all clips, right click and choose “relink”
5. the relink window shows up, fill it up like this picture
make sure you didn’t check “relink only to media from…”
and “match case when…”6. once you click OK, avid will relink your old bins and sequences.
7. you can now trash the new AMA bin you created.
sucks it still has to be this way.
AMA is still a work in progress. we should give it some time to stabilize.

again… what are you shooting on?
yes, you have a plugin by Automatic Duck that allows bringing a project from avid to FCP and then color
Resolve Lite can take AAFs from Avid, but is limited (in the Lite version) to HD projects
both are good grading tools.
most important question is… what does your colorist prefer.

January 14, 2012 at 5:44 pm in reply to: Avid Color Space / Display Color Space MismatchYup… Won’t workon AVCHD. Only QT (red files have different source settings) and only if its not Avid codec.
I believe AVCHD is shot in 709 and therfore no need to change its range. This is mainly for files created in RGB or coming from RGB workspce.

in the audio suit tool you have a “reverse” plugin which does just that
also, if ever need to re-time there is “time compression expansion”

what did you shoot on?
it makes little difference in most cases where you digitize.
more important is proper ingest to your Avid.finishing Avid projects in Color is a very frequent procedure
and with the recent free AutoDuck pack it even becomes simpler.
also look into Da Vinci Resolve Lite.

“Get full native ProRes support…” does not mean fast import, (you can’t fast import XDCAM or DVCproHD)
however, you are right. it has changed and i was able to fast import a ProRes HQ file into MC6.
this is quite cool 🙂
and should definitely be properly documented by Avid, as it isn’t right now
also, like i suspected, it seems impossible to consolidate AMA linked ProRes

things might have changed on this one… for example i couldn’t find the help page for fast import
which i do remember seeing before.the way I remember it was, that you can only fast import Avid codecs
ProRes isn’t one, and this option shouldn’t work.from the avid website:
(look under the codec box)
https://avid.custkb.com/avid/app/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=271233unless of course it changed,
or i remember it wrong (i don’t think so…)not sure AMA and consolidate should work either, but i may be wrong on this one, i’ll test it tomorrow.
and if anyone finds the help page on fast importing… please let me know what you entered in search
thanks
