  • This certainly does work

However even if I try to smoothen the resulting motion out I still end up with gentle vibrations.

    I am using this:

    smooth(width=.3, samples=15, t=time)

    Here is the project file:

    8018_testwaver.aep.zip

What I really need is to have the vibration smoothed over until it could look like keyframes only about 5 frames apart. But as this is music, I cannot necacarilly smooth over important ‘beats’…

I thought motion blur could help, but the problem is that I’m going to be porting these motion keyframes into Cinema4D where any unnatural motion will be very noticeable.

Also, how do I cap rotational values to a maximum of -120 / +120 degrees?

    Cheers!

    Thanks so much Brian

I did some much needed GreyScaleGorilla tutorials and fixed my problem!

Your advice was definitely useful too though and guided my research.

Here is the final scene file…

    Hi Brian

Thanks for getting back to me

I have just simplified the model’s elements

I could not figure out how to alter the origin, so I have created planes instead and set them as invisible parents of each element…

    Will this work?

Where do I go from here?

    Cheers

    Brian

I’ve just tried ‘Closing Polygon Hole’ on each ‘ring’ rotation point… I’ve then separated the polygon generated from the close and tried using that as a parent for the rotation, rather than the anchor point just being in the center of each segment.

Weirdly the children of the newly created rotation planes are not moving with it…

I thought that would solve the problem you were talking about regarding the origin… Seems like I was wrong.

How do I go about what your suggesting?

    Cheers!

    Thanks Brian!

I’m struggling with setting the coordinates of the origins…

Would I generate some kind of plane for them?

Connecting them all together is easy but making sure they rotate correctly is a tricky one…

  • Ahhh ok – I’ll research into this more. So far, the only insight into this glare package i’ve seen has come from these 2 videos:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNM1ALh9ZL0 (utilizing luminance tracking – does not look great)…
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKty_gZGpKs (utilizing masks – seems more “3D”. Beautiful)…

I have not yet purchased the package. I just don’t want to waste money considering my deadlines. I need this glare polish asap and I don’t know if masking/etc will be possible in the time-frame.

Just to double check though… You DO know what I’m aiming to do right? I want to create an animated MASK from a luma-keyed MATTE. Allowing the “depth” from the second video to be achieved rather than the first…

Thank you very much for your feedback anyway 🙂

    Hope to hear more!

  • hmmmm ok i’ll look into this. i’ve arranged a visit to the mac store to get a diagnosis from one of their many FCP guys. If the problem isn’t solved, they recommend I try and talk to somebody over the phone from their AppleCare service… You guys have proved to be a fantastic help though. Thank you. But I’m still confused as to how on earth my previous Imac from 2007 could handle H246 as a standard compressor for rendering?? It wasn’t even at a snail-pace. This confused the Apple guys last time I spoke and it has prompted them to actually check my mac for faults as they believe the performance should be vastly
    greater on my MacBook Pro…

yeah thats a point.. but my mate has one of those, and he said it wont emulate that effect – he said it’s mainly for achieving ‘alternative’/vintage style shots with blurred edges OR getting that Thunderbirds scaled down look..

When i look at it, i think, maybe he has a motorized lens that is physically swapping from wide to really wide – maybe it’s plastic and physically bending? I contacted the director in an email to see what he has to say… Hopefully he’ll reveal his secret! He directed this video too with similar effects:

hmmmmmmm. ok. i’ve done some research. still no information regarding the effect, or possible motor used to zoom in/out that fast..

Have you ever seen something like this before?
i think it could be post as the footage is in ultra slow motion – besides, how would a camera be able to control a lens so fast it appears to ‘wobble’ quickly (in slo-mo)?

the artists ‘foreign beggars’ are underground and their video’s are usually lo-fi. it strikes me as odd that they’d all of a sudden get an fx laden music video, thats mainly why i think it’s post as i can imagine it being cheaper…

would love to hear some more from you guys!
