Hi Joe – thanks for the reponse but none of my icons are appearing and clicking anywhere has no effect.

    A quick update..

I’ve just tried TechTool (4.6.1), and it past all the tests (other than some minor ‘finder info’ repairs which were fixed) and the fault still remains!

Anyone have any ideas at all? Or is there a different forum I should post this to?

I updated from Perian 0.5 to 1.1.1 and… it has fixed it! I was also getting odd faults around the edge of the flv image, and it has fixed that too.

I downloaded Perian for the first time only a couple of days ago, so don’t understand how I ended up with 0.5. Or perhaps it has just jumped from 0.5 to 1.1.1?

BIG BIG THANKS Dan and especially Craig!

  • Thanks to all your kind suggestions I’ve made some progress! … though not quite there yet…

Rafael – I finally tried your suggestion of encoding in Compressor first, then adding to DSP, and there is an improvement. It is now only a bit washed-out rather than very washed-out. I’d say 20 percent bad rather than 90 percent bad.

Jeremy – my DSP ‘washed-out’ fault is perhaps a different one to yours? i.e. I only see the washed-out image after a build, and only from the VIDEO_TS folder. i.e. it never looks wrong even after a render within DSP itself.

Aaron (welcome!) – are you sure DSP does not reconvert when you add buttons? Are we talking about the same kind of buttons? Overlay buttons (I think)?

I did a test. I removed all buttons on the main menu and did a build, i.e. made a VIDEO_TS folder. There was no render time AND more importantly, the menu looks great! i.e. no washed-out image! So this must be the original DSP rendered menu, as there was no render time..

When I put the buttons back though, the same problem returns on ‘build’. And it looks like it is definitely rendering to me, i.e. it takes a few minutes rather than a few seconds to build.. and it’s very washed out again.

I also checked my menu inspector’s color tab, and the top one is on 0 (though black is selected rather than white in my case). However, when I move it to 7 (middle), in my case it only affects the text buttons, not the menu. (I have ‘include text in highlight’ ticked if that is relevant)

So where does that leave us I wonder?

Thank you all, and any more thoughts very welcome!
(Apologies in advance though if I don’t respond promptly, as I’ll be away for a couple of days)

  • Rafael – you are right that Compressor will compress it better, but when I then add text buttons created within DSP, DSP then needs to compress again because of the added buttons, i.e. back to original problem except worse because I am compressing to mpeg2 twice. Please correct me if I am mistaken, or misunderstood your suggestion. Thanks.

  • Thanks Jeremy for that link. Interesting even though I’m not myself using ‘goofy Leopard’. Perhaps I should try and install my 4.0.3 version of DSP onto my Tiger drive (as one of your responders recommended)? Not sure though.. especially while in the middle of a job…

  • Hi Rafael – My problem is (I think) that I have no choice but to encode within DSP because I am creating text buttons within DSP, i.e. which go on top of the motion menu. Or are you saying that I can export my menu with buttons to compressor? If so, how?

  • Hi Jeremy – I’ve got FCP5 on Tiger(10.4.11), but DSP4 on Panther(10.3.9).

This is because FCP5 won’t open without using my budget installed graphics card and Tiger (if I recall correctly). This same graphics card however, displays terrible artefacts when playing DVD material, hence DSP4 on Panther with said card disabled! Within DSP4 I have ‘software encode’ prefs chosen incidentally.

  • UPDATE – I think I’ve solved it.

Basically, I trashed prefs using FCP Rescue 5. On launch it said “Settings are corrupt! No backup”, which confused me but I selected ‘Trash’ anyway. I then repaired permission with Disk Utility – which I think I had already tried previously.

So not sure which of the above did it. Anyway, it seems to be working again.

    Thanks

  • Yes Michael, Multiclip Playback is checked in the RT drop-down menu.

When I play the multiclip from the timeline and hit the Command-1 or 2, it just stops playing every time, and does not add any markers.

Nothing happens at all when I use the Multiclip button bar, except I get the default apple alert sound during playback, and not even that when stationary.

Incidentally, although I’ve read that clips on V2 and V3 are not recommended with multiclip sequences, I have been using them with no adverse effect. Even so, I’ve just tried disabling them all, but this doesn’t seem to solve my problem.
