Ok… what a learning experience!!… I sheepishly admit that I was dragging (nesting) the .VEG file onto the timeline. This I get from also doing little projects in FCE. Thanks to those who responded to my obvious lack of knowledge. The Good news is that those other beginners out there who get to read this thread won’t have to go through the same. Thanks.

Edward: You are right… may be this is what has been happening… It just did it again this morning with a larger unfinished file I had been working on… Now that you mention it, it is quite possible that I have been dragging the .VEG files into a timeline instead of just double clicking or using FILE + Open.. Grrrrrrrrrrrr I will try creating a sample of that to find out for sure. Well, this is why we ask, right? I will post later about my finding. Thanks.

Well, the message displayed on a small window says: rendering file XXXXXX, etc.
If it were just building the audio peaks, you could still see the video events in their different tracks. In this case everything gets converted to a single video file. If you cancel, then it just won’t do anything. I wonder if there could be something on PROPERTIES which is check/uncheck causing this to happen.
