I know this was posted over a year ago but it seems to be the best workflow I can find.

I have gotten up to the point where I am ready to transcode.

I have tried “Build Proxy Movies” but that just tells me the proxies are already made, which makes sense since I am telling it that my H264’s are the proxies.

So I tried exporting (Cmd+E) to transcode 1 clip. I select all my setting and export to the folder where I want my Pro Res versions to live and then CatDV crashes.

Rolf or Chad (or anyone…) could you please let me know the next step to take after setting my media search paths, to transcode my media and be able to open it in FCP and have the project refer to my Pro Res clips?

Thanks so much! I’ve been trying to get a handle on our dslr ingest for weeks and I just cant’s seem to find the right way.

I think that I may have explained this poorly. Let me explain my file-based (we work almost exclusively with SSD, no tapes) workflow in FCP.

I open the FCP log and transfer window and open the file containing the CF card I have saved on my hard drive. As I go through through the clips I re-name them and if I have similar names FCP auto-completes them for me as a search engine would for a previous search. Some of the clips are the same scene/content (e.g “buildings from car”) and therefore have the same name. When Final Cut transcodes these clips it automatically adds a number 1, 2, 3…. to the end, to make them unique.

When I do this in CatDV and hit cmd+e to export (transcode), it tells me that my clips do not have unique names. I am wondering if there is a way for CatDV to auto-fill recurring text and to automatically add numbers to file names on export.

Its not really feasible, space is too small and the editing bays take up half the space anyways.

Thanks! We are using OSX 10.6.6 with Final Cut 7. I dont think we have an audio interface, and I am doing this research partly to find out what headsets may work for this. I dont know much about what Im looking for, I’m the newbie =)
