I did previously export to quick time, file was .mov, but selected Apple DV – PAL under compression – was probably a mistake.

I tried again (export to quick time) in uncompressed 8 bit, which worked, but file was obviously massive to work with. Tried codec Apple DVCPRO50, which didnt work, result was same as DV-PAL.

What codec would you recommend to encode into with least loss of the already butchered divx original?

Hi,

just did what you suggested, conveted to DV mov the file, but still have red line on the timeline and blue screen showing unrendered media when trying to edit. Pls see attached pic – sequence settings match file settings.

Thanks for your comments Dave, great help – not.

I never thought divx was professional compression for editing, but its wide spread enough to expect support for it, especially if one is crazy enough to get the pro version of all software involved. Not to mention the major incompatibility of quicktime with pretty much anything, which even in its pro state isnt to play standard multiplexed mpegs from premiere, where a vlc player doesn’t even think twice.

But true, my mistake of thinking that mac did everything in video editing, because unfortunately it is built around quicktime, that lacks basic compatibility with the rest of the world, which I failed to acknowledge.

Will see if I get anywhere with Mr. Amador’s advice.
