I tested with HyperDeck STUDIO on firmware 2.5 same happening here.
NO AVID MXF playback, after record. But the files are on disk. We see only a black picture while playback of AVID MXF.

BMD please fix that..

If I switch to Quicktime uncompressed or MXF in Quicktime, the playback seems fine…

Hi Guys,

if I look to your pictures I see not a “gamma shift” I see a difference between decoding of DNxHD 422 into RGB and AVCHD in RGB via DNxHD. Thats a codec issue, which we saw in Baselight as well with transcoded footage generated with Avid MetaFuze.
Same happend here with AfterEffects. The workflow guides from “cablibrated MXF” are correct and helping us to avoid this fullrange (0-255)/headrange (16-236) issue.

I believe, AVID has changed the DNxHD decoding method to work in 444 with DNxHD, because than they need fullrange decode. In the AVID SDK i’ve have seen new methods implemented…
This introduces a new standard process issue, on processes were no new decoding method is used. We worked that out with other systems as well.

Thats why I think the issues are in the old Avid codecs prior to 2.3.4

The biggest problem of ignoring that issue is the compression levels gets to hard. We had transcoded DNxHD ARRI Alexa Footage with LogC graded without massive artifacts. Now on the new codec methods, the same grading process looks awfull with a lot of bandings. But thanks to Filmlight, the issued a new decoding method per each clip, so you can decide, how you want to go.

Hi Joshua,

many thanks for your indepth explaints. As you can see, we still buy your products and we like your rapid developments in so many areas.

I’m still confused about the small pass of defining “bug” and “feature”.

1. Still use on the smartcontrol panel one source button and one destination button to apply only a remote level route change. Switch it. Switch it on a different videohub control panel and change the remote only route away from the previous source to some different… This is not reporting back at the first panel…

2. I would suggest to implement the timecode world (laughing) back into the files. So it can order the clips straight to advancing timecode. Or give the user the choice… like a cliplist…
Another question there: how many times can I remove the SSDs to swap the drives for activation? It feels not too strong to do it so many times. I think a “DISK” button could be useful.. maybe on the dead “DISP” button? A could relabel it by myself. Is there any SDK available? 😉

3. My reseller sent it back to the distributor for change… Will have it back soon… Wait for it. The front cover is definitly laying over active pixel area? Is this by design?

4. Wondering… Our Snell Archangel PhC works in 3G mode with our DVS Clipster in 3G over the Blackmagic Broadcast Videohub Router. But the Ultrascope is not showing the signal… But your Smartview Duo was showing the signal there… The signal is only 1080 422 50p
Strange, we check this more out…

7. Its weird because we use the H264 Recorder on a SandyBridge Z68 Chipset. There is no native USB 2.0 anymore. Just 3.0 There we had some 2 ports, which are working good, and others not…
But we got it working steady so far. Still with older i7 MacBookpro (2010) we had the issues with higher frames were dropping.

it is possible:
tested with Windows 7 64bit, Decklink Driver 9.0, AfterEffects CS 5.5

take your composition to “Add to Render Queue” an go to the render queue:

In the Output module it is important to uncheck “Include Project Link” and uncheck “Include XMP Metadata”

under Video Output choose Channel “RGB” then Format Options “uncompressed YUV 10 bit 4:2:2” don’t use the Blackmagic Codecs!!!!!!!! they don’t work here.

Depth “Trillions of Colors” (this represents 10 bit)
Color “Premultiplied”
