OK, here we are a year later and Proanimator and Invigorator haven’t been updated….
I can honestly say that these products are the best, most intuitive plugins I’ve ever used for After Effects. The animating experience is pure genius. The interface for drawing custom bevels is fabulous. But the truth is also that these programs are getting long in the tooth. They don’t scale with high DPI displays. I can’t do any work if I can’t see what I’m doing. They are prone to crashes. When other similar programs are now supporting RTX and other current gen features, it is hard to justify sticking with Zaxwerks.

  • I’ve always thought 3D Invigarator Pro and Proanimator were awesome software, but Zax Dow REALLY needs to examine his website. It’s massively confusing what version number of Proanimator we are on now and if it’s been released yet and what is a stand alone app and what is a plug in. Thanks for the article John, but Zax is really the one who needs to do the clarifying at the source. I’ve never understood why Zaxwerks has such awesome software and then has such lousy marketing. You would think a business would want to make money. I hate it when you go to a web page and you don’t know if the page is old or which version of the app they are talking about because they leave all the version numbers off.

Camera moves like the ones in the belief showreels are a combination of easing and depth of field. The best way to learn how to operate the camera is to buy Chris and Trish Meyer’s Creating Motion Graphics volume I. There is a whole chapter devoted to camera work and how to to orientate in 3D space and ease in and out to achieve fluid motion, and the accompanying DVD has great ready made AE compositions to practice on. That said, an obvious thing that many people overlook is creating a new top view alongside their regular comp as they are animating the camera. Also, the path that the camera animates thru is a bezier path that can be adjusted just like any other bezier path. Try adjusting the bezier path to achieve different camera velocities.

What is your website? I’m looking for a new lighting setup and I’d like to check your products out.
