Thanks Jeff. Here’s a follow-up. The client’s DVD authoring/streaming vendor says the following about my ProRes exports:

“Strange. I was seeing some pixalization so I looked at the metadata and it said it was at 12Mbps.”

What does that even mean? How can metadata show 12Mbps when I’m editing and sharing in ProRes 422? That doesn’t make sense.

Is this guy just trying to make me look bad?

Thanks for your response.

As I said we’re renting Cameras and Atomos recorders. Those prices are not within my control. Also with 7 freelance contractors, I’d like to keep them all on hold. This way they’ll be familiar with the nuances of each room. AlsoI can train up each person to frame the shot how I wish and also record on the Atomos. Otherwise I’ll end up with different people on different days and I’ll always be training camera/atomos operators.

90 days would only be 30 days out from the event, and maybe not fair for my freelancers to book those days without an agreement. Thoughts?

So After Effects is 26 years old.

For me, we hire drone pilots and equipment often, but it’s part of our shoot.In that case it’s $200 to-$300 additional, since it’s the same operator who os shooting our other footage.

Otherwise it depends on what we’re shooting. A large commercial property or a small house have different rates. If we’re shooting real estate, it may involve shooting the local community as well. That rate comes in higher.

Mark, your story about the U-matic tape hits home for me. Many moons ago, when 3/4″ tape was all the rage, the company I worked for has a viewing room for clients to watch 3/4″ tapes.

One day I received a call from the Executive Vice President, who was in the room to view a stockholder video we had just produced. He said that we gave him the wrong tape, because it would not fit in the machine. So I rode the elevator up 8 stories and walked in the room where I found him. When I observed what he was doing it was alarmingly funny. You see, he was trying to insert the video tape while it was still in it’s case. It wouldn’t fit…

Without breaking stride or losing eye contact with him, I just took the tape case out of his hands and inserted the tape into the
U-matic deck. I then kept making eye contact with him as I left the room. No words were spoken….
