We don’t make reference to ownership of the footage in our contract we say:

Ball Media Innovations, Inc. is an independent contractor and not an employee of Client, with the sole authority to control and direct the performance of the details of the work, Client being interested only in the results obtained.

Since I refer to them as a client and us as an independent contractor, I believe under the law that I own the footage.

It would take forever to upload 262 GB of footage.

Hi guys. So the client just contacted me asking for the raw footage. The way I see it is that I own the footage. There’s 262gb of footage. I worked as an independent contractor.

So would you charge them for the footage?

I’ve thought about this myself. The challenge is finding the clients. For a while I had someone (an older gentleman who had been a producer in the 1970’s) who could line up wealthy seniors, but he passed away. If you can figure out a way to get clients, I’d love to hear about it. I don’t know where you’re located. Is it a good market?

Thaks Jeff, I don’t see anything you’re saying as argumentative . I’m just trying to learn.

Basically I’ve put all of my footage on the main story line, then add some connected clips above that. I place the Voiceover narration track under the main story line. Sorta like FCP 7. Is that not correct?

Thanks for the great advice! I’ve never implemented a kill fee in a project agreement. Can you guys tell me what language you would use, and what percentage of the project you would require for that?
