Nyeah…. I remember under SONY, and before, offers made to those how’d had bought a current version, would get a “pass” to the next version within a month of purchase. And no, I haven’t seen a similar MAGIX offer.

  • You’re welcome. I’m no programmer, just a Vegas Grunt! I was depending on that not finding Plugs shouldn’t have stopped Vegas from loading, and then seeing the Build number and adding all this to the drive formatting.

BTW, whilst it was installing did you notice any call outs to Microsoft to install an updated .Net Framework and/or Redistributable? I’ve noticed this occuring and maybe have also shaken loose a much needed function.

  • [Lord Porongus] “Does this info help?”

    Somewhat, yes.

[Lord Porongus] “Application Version: Version 14.0 (Build 161) 64-bit”

I notice your are still on the primary release Build of VP14, Build 161 – we’re now on Build 270. This was issued on 6/26/2017.

    [Lord Porongus] “Fault Module: D:\Program Files\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro 14.0\FileIO Plug-Ins\compoundplug\compoundplug.dll”

Erm…. Can you do a search for those errant Plugs? Just see if they are or aren’t on your system?

So, thinking back, what was the history leading to your need to reformat that drive? Install VP14 then format drive? Format drive and then install VP14?

I’m not saying that it would help with the Plug thing, but would you consider installing the latest Build 270? It was posted on 6/26/2017.

  • [Lord Porongus] “I forgot to mention the fact that I formatted my PC.”

    ???? yup, that’ll do it.

However, I’ve thought in the past, and now you’ve reminded me, that a VEG should still be available to be opened, albeit without the Plugs that were used. A bit like having deleted Media that remains offline. I don’t see why not have Vegas being able to be opened. I’m sure it’s code stuff, but there again THAT could be redesigned to cope with just this situation. People change stuff-out. Vegas is for creatives. We’re known for experimenting. We’re also known for formatting drives ????.

Would you now download the AWOL plugs?

  • [Lord Porongus] “Any solution that doesn’t involve reinstalling those plug-ins?”

In Preferences, if the plugs were VSTs, you could try Rescanning your VST plugins folders. But, if you are sure you don’t have them anymore then this won’t help. However, if you didn’t use them, in this old project, this may still point to VSTs not being locatable. Was this old VEG created on the same PC? Have you needed to change out drives? Is anything you can think of that would “misdirect” VP trying to locate the VST?. Another thought that IF it is that old it could be another type of plugin. Dunno, but I think you should still be able to open the VEG.

Look in your VST folders to determine that they are AWOL. Do a GLOBAL search through a Windows Tool that allows you to do this. I use FileSearchy, great WinApp. Recently I had to find a bunch of iZotope VST plugins that had gone AWOL. I truly knew they were on my PC, so I was working from a position of knowledge!

As I’m not aware of a way to stop Vegas from searching for Plugs on loading, you may still need to download them. You could try the Factory reset?

  • Need info:

    1) Media: Use MediaInfo

    2) Project Settings: Screengrab would be good.

    3) Your system hardware.

    4) Your GPU info.

    Need the facts.

[Jeff David] “Sorry – I have little to zero experience recording.”

Hey guy! no worries, and no need to apologize – that should be my job.

Trying to make this simple is a real hard task, as making it simple<>understandable could make the meaning too weak to be of importance. I’ve had to learn much of what I need to know and from others who gave me their time here and other Forums – for free too!

    OK:

1] Please explain exactly what you do to capture your Voice?

2] What is the environment you do this in? Bedroom? Walled room with hard, audio reflective surfaces?

3] The device you record your voice on?

4] How do you Monitor what you are recording? Headphones? External Speakers? Your Levels Bars in Vegas?

Again, what we need to do is to make the AUDIO difference/level between that which you want the Signal [ your Voice] and that which is the NOISE or interference [ your PC internal boards and circuitry and STATIC]. This is called the RATIO between SIGNAL to NOISE. If we can separate these two elements far enough then the NOISE becomes such a small component that it is acceptable. My setup is about 12 to 1. Meaning that the NOISE element is not only tiny [-75dB], but becomes almost totally swamped by a good healthy SIGNAL [ -6dB].

From the little you’re able to tell me, you are increasing your recording levels to a point that the NOISE element is out doing your SIGNAL [ your V/O]. Added to which you are now revealing the STATIC or NOISE. If you are going to move forward with your V/O you need to precisely ascertain just where in the SIGNAL flow you are getting the unwanted sound.

As an attempt by me to try and demonstrate this, I have prepared an AUDIO file which you can hear the laying of a Test Tone over my PC’s NOISE floor. A section which allows us to hear my noise floor which I have had to raise 75 times just to HEAR it. Then a section of what my daily noise floor at this -75dB. I’ve also included a Screen Grab in VP revealing the sections.

And here’s the WAV file for you to listen to. D/L the ZIP and open it and play in WMP : 11556_signaltonoiseratio.wav.zip

[Jeff David] “I’VE ALWAYS HAD THAT SET TO 15 OR SO – AND THAT IS WHEN THE PLAYBACK WAS STATICY SO I’VE REDUCED IT TO 42 WHEN I RECORD.”

NB: See above you can differentiate by using the QUOTE feature – no need to CAPS me!

OK, you have so much to scramble through to get your head around this audio level stuff that it would be worth your and my sanity to start priming up on some of the requirements to recording sound, even at our levels of expertise.

Essentially I record a signal at around -10db for v/o, and that’s on a noise level now somewhere lower than -75db. I can live with that.
