Are you talking real contrast, or manufacturers stated contrast? Were they measured to the same test standards??

Yes, that fixed things here too… But I use the decklink with desktop on all the time, so it’s only a temporary solution….

Say you’re editing PAL DV. The capture from PAL DV tape to FCP is lossless in that it’s just a data transfer. If you edit those clips on a DV timeline, you’ve still not lost anything. Say you then go “File-> Export -> Quicktime Movie… (accept current settings) make self-contained”, and make a new movie on disc which is the join of all those little movies. That new movie is still identical quality to what was on tape. You’ve incurred no losses at all yet.
If you’re short on disc space, you can save a reference movie by unchecking “make self contained” and it’s still lossless.

But size does alter our perception of the effect of colour. Grading a movie on a 12″ display will give you a result that will not have the same effect emotionally etc. as it would on the cinema screen.

Saw them running at NAB, and they looked really nice. But then again, so does my Cinema Display + HDLink. The only let down with the HDlink is I still can’t get the interlace mode working properly, but other than that, it’s superb.

The free 50 was just a test for comment. Try G Map frames in Standards Converter for lovely 50% slowdown of interlaced footage. It only does 50% mind you, but it’s lovely.

Ecinemasys have LCD monitors capable of being used for high end grading, and they don’t cost that much.

I think it can. But if you get the image sitting in the midle, you’re sure you’re seeing what the 720p pixels look like, not, perhaps, any scaling artifacts taking it up to 1080p. Personally, I’d like the choice of both.

Thanks. I went through and found a whole list and sent it off to apple. I gave up after a while as a lot are broken. Hopefully they can do a quick fix and get it back in action.
